Lagos State Government shuts down Lord’s Chosen Church Headquarters

Lazarus Muoka
The Headquarters of popular Lagos church Lord's Chosen and Charismatic Revival Church, founded by Pastor Lazarus Muoka, has been sealed off by the Lagos State Government for allegedly defacing and constituting environmental nuisance to its environment.

The church, located in Ijesha on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos, was shut down on Sunday Oct. 6th by officials of the Ministry of the Environment and prevented thousands of worshipers from having their Sunday service that morning.

The Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, explained why the Church was shut down

“The Church does not have proper sanitary system and they discharge their wastes into the canal. Most of their members trade on the expressway and we don’t want that"he said

The commissioner also said the church had a habit of burning its refuse inside the church, an action that is against the environmental and sanitation law of the state. He said the church will be re-opened only after it builds new toilets, build a sewage septic tank for the treatment of waste water, remove all illegal attachments built on drainage channels, keep the environment clean and ensure that none of its members trade on the expressway.

Lagos state action is unargueably in the right direction. The place should be cleaned up and beautified. It is a place of worship and cleanliness is next to Godliness. We cannot see ourselves as followers of the gospel while flauting simple rules made for our good. All other places of worship denegrading our environment must face the same action. We travel to other countries where we see how things are well organised but chose to live lives below those of animals in our own country.

Lagos State Govt has no right whatsoever to shut down the church but caution those who trade around the church premises. If possible take action against the traders if they fail to comply but not the Church. We got to give respects to places of worship and not incure the wrath of God. Church is one entity that compliments govt efforts at building and helping citizens shun social vices and as such be respected otherwise nigerians may begin to read meaning to the action of Tunji Bello Lagos Commissioner for the environment.

All those giving their comments as anonymous shd not voice out anything about Fashola's action against the church. U begging the commisioner 2 stop those making noise in the early hour of the day disturbing ur sleep all in the name of preaching don't u think u shd have given ur full identity cos righrt now no 1 knows who u are. Someone said lagos state gov has no right 2 shut down the church. As the Governor of the state he has every right 2 do things 2 ensure the state is in a sound condition, and that he shd have cautioned them. He would have cautioned them on several occassion before now b4 he decided 2 take this drastic action of shutting down the place and to reopen it when they have put everything in place.
