President Barack Obama, surrounded by family, took the oath of office yesterday Sunday January 20th in an intimate swearing-in ceremony at the White House. He was officially sworn-in by Chief Justice John Roberts in the Blue Room of the White House.

Wounded Emir of Kano, two sons flown to London for treatment after attack

The Emir of Kano, and his two sons who were wounded during Saturday's attack by unknown gunmen along the popular Zoo Road in Kano metropolis have been transported to a London hospital for medical attention.

A private plane carrying them alongside some aides and relatives departed the Aminu Kano International Airport yesterday afternoon. 

The Emir was returning from a ceremony at a mosque when the men opened fire on his convoy. The Emir survived the attack, but his driver and two guards were killed.
 

Mother defends photo of Chicago preacher taking a bath with her 4yr old daughter

Days after popular Chicago preacher, Bishop Larry Trotter was criticized online for taking a bubble bath with his 4 year old grand daughter, the little girl's mother, Javon Trotter, has come out to defend her father. Read what she said below...

“I’m upset, I’m hurt I can’t believe that people would re-post the picture of my innocent baby and say bad things about my father who loves my baby and all kids. He would never do anything to harm them. It’s hurtful for my whole family. I don’t understand this. It doesn’t look bad. I don’t know why people would think this way. I know my father and he would never do anything to his kids. I would have not posted the photo online…We never wanted anyone else to see it. My father is hurt as well, we’re his family. He doesn’t want people to be posting his picture all over the world.”

She also said her father and daughter had on swimming trunks and that the little girl was in the water for about three to five minutes, and she was present during the entire situation.

The footballer and his wife, Sarah Fallon, welcomed a baby boy yesterday morning .The proud father made the announcement on his Twitter page.The couple got married in May 2012 after dating for a few years. Big congrats to them.

View with discretion: 40 decomposed bodies found in Anambra river

Residents of Amansea in Awka, Anambra State woke up on Saturday January 19th to a horrifying sight; 40 dead bodies floating in a River in their community. People from the community and some neighbouring ones besieged the Ezu river to catch a glimpse of the dead bodies. The river is at the boundary between Enugu and Anambra states and the dead bodies were found at the old Enugu-Onitsha road axis of the river.

The corpses whose identities were unknown, were suspected to have been dumped in the river Friday night by unknown persons.

The traditional ruler of Amansea said the community had never witnessed such a gory sight before, while the Commissioner of Police in the state said the dead bodies remained a mystery as there had been no communal clash in Enugu or Anambra where many people were killed. He said investigations are ongoing...

Meanwhile the governor of the state, Peter Obi, has cut short his working trip abroad to return to the state to enable him visit the scene.

Henry Okah found guilty of 2010 Independence Day bomb attacks

A South African court this morning convicted the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah, of masterminding twin car bombings during Nigeria's 50th independence celebrations in October 2010 that killed twelve people and injured several others.

He was also found guilty of masterminding the two explosions in Warri in March 2010.

Henry Okah was found guilty on all counts and faces a minimum sentence of life in prison.

Mistress strangles lover’s 4 children in Anambra state

In what sounds like a movie tale, A woman in Obuno Umuochefu, Igbo-Ukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state has snuffed life out of four children of her boyfriend by strangling them. Not done with her bestial mission, the suspect sat back at the scene of the crime until her victims’ parents returned, and attacked their mother.

Assassination attempt on Bulgarian politician on Live TV

Ahmed Dogan, leader of a liberal party which represents the Turkish minority in Bulgaria, survived the astonishing assassination attempt while giving a speech at a conference in the capital Sofia (left). Television footage shows a man storming the stage and aiming a gun at his head. But the weapon misfired and Mr Dogan, 58, escaped unharmed. Over 40 bodies found floating on Anambra River

Dozens of Unidentified bodies numbering over 40 were on Saturday found floating on Ezzu River at Amansea, a town on the border between Anambra and Enugu states on Saturday.

The situation generated panic across the state as people wondered where the bodies could have come from.

The Anambra State Assistant Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the story but said investigations into the matter had commenced. (Punch)

President Jonathan at Police College, Ikeja

President Jonathan yesterday afternoon made a surprise visit to the Police College, Ikeja, days after Channels TV exposed the shameful state of the college. The president was actually on his way to an ECOWAS meeting in the Ivory Coast when his plane was diverted to Ikeja.

He immediately proceeded on an inspection tour of the hostels, college kitchen, dining hall and the Officers’ Mess. Then he demanded to know how Channels TV gained access to the college to film the embarrassing condition of the college. No one had an answer for him. He promised to revamp the college after declaring that the documentary by Channels was a smear campaign.
He said:

“This is a calculated attempt to damage the image of this government. The Police College, Ikeja is not the only training institution in Nigeria"

Lance Armstrong confesses to doping

Lance Armstrong told Oprah during the first of a two-part interview Thursday night, that he doped throughout his career and might not have been caught if not for his comeback in 2009. His longtime friend and training partner George Hincapie, who was along for the ride on all his Tour de France wins from 1999-2005, was forced to give him up to anti-doping authorities.

Lance also admitted that he was the ring leader of the US Postal Service doping team .

''I'm a flawed character,'' he said.

''No,'' Armstrong replied. ''Scary.''
''Did you feel bad about it?'' Winfrey pressed him.
''No,'' he said. ''Even scarier.''

About 12 contestants comprising eight females and four males are jostling for the grand prize of a brand new car and N1million as well as cooking equipments.

Bishop Trotter & his 4yr old granddaughter in a bathtub: Is It Inappropriate?

Bishop Larry Trotter, a senior pastor of the Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago posted this photo of himself and his 4year old granddaughter in a bathtub on his Instagram page.

A number of people went ham on the popular Bishop after the photo was posted online. Many feel it's inappropriate interactions with a minor because they are both topless in the photo. One person wrote

No man should ever ever ever take a bath with a female in his family or friends. That’s only for a man and his wife! This is totally inappropriate behavior!

The bishop defended himself by saying that while taking a bubble bath, his grand daughter, who was visiting with her parents for the weekend, came in the bathroom and asked him if she could get in the tub. He said yes, and it was the girl's mother who took the photograph. Is it inappropriate?

Unbelievable;See inside the Nigerian Police College, Lagos

I have no words to describe this, but thankfully they say pictures tell a thousand words. This is the deplorable state of the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja, Lagos...the first police college in the country, built in 1940.

Channels TV exposed the deplorable conditions of the dormitories at the training college where recruits spend months to get training to become police officers. The condition of the hostels, the bathrooms, and even the way they feed is so shameful. N150 daily meal allowance. There has been no major development at the college since it was built in the 40's except for a few renovations. They even still use type-writer. The College was built for 700 students, but now has 2,554 trainees. See for yourself after the cut...
