Fifth victim from the Chattanooga terror attack dies

U.S. Navy sailor has succumbed to injuries sustained in this week's deadly Tennessee rampage, bringing the death toll from the shooting to five. The U.S. Navy did not immediately release the name of the sailor. On Friday, a statement by the Navy said a petty officer was undergoing "medical treatment" for gunshot wounds, but it is not immediately clear if Saturday's victim is the same person.

South Africa returns $15m seized for the purchase of arms to Nigerian govt

There are claims that the $15 million seized by the South African Govt. in 2014 that was meant for the purchase of arms for the Nigerian military has been returned to the Nigerian government.

The sum of $9.3 million was seized by the South African authorities on September 5, 2014 and another $5.7 million was seized later in a transaction involving Societe D’ Equipments Internationale of Nigeria and Cereberus Risk Solutions, a South African arms company.

10 year old gives birth hours after complaining of stomach ache at school

A girl of 10 who complained at school of stomach ache gave birth just hours later. She was rushed to hospital in Brazil by teachers and found her to be in the late stages of labour. Although only 7 months pregnant, the girl gave birth normally.

The girl and her baby are being cared for in the hospital's neonatal unit. She told police her ­stepfather, 40, abused her. He is now accused of rape.

Photos: Tragedy averted as two First Nation Airways plane collide at Lagos Airport

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, tragedy was averted today July 17th at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos following a ground collision of 2 aircraft belonging to FirstNation Airways.
Friday’s incident which happened at about mid-day involved two Airbus 330 conveying not fewer than 250 passengers. The two aircraft had their bodies partially damaged as a result of the collision. A source at the airport said one of the aircrafts was taxiing from the runway to MMA2, to disengage passengers while the other aircraft was preparing to take off to Port-Harcourt Airport from the same terminal.

SSS vacates Sambo Dasuki's residence

Operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, have vacated the Abuja residence of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. The SSS operatives have been at the home since yesterday July 16th, keeping Dasuki and his friend, Col. Bello Fadile under house arrest.

Premium Times reports that SSS operatives vacated his residence after they collected a statement from him regarding some cars that were found in his premises. The cars were earlier towed from his home and have not been returned.

Obama becomes first sitting president to visit prison; pushes reform

On Thursday, President Barack Obama visited the Federal Correctional Institution El Reno, a medium-security facility near Oklahoma City, becoming the 1st sitting president to visit a federal prison.
Earlier this week, President Barack Obama commuted the prison sentences of 46 people serving lengthy jail terms for nonviolent drug offenses.

"You can help someone get a job but you can't help them do it" he said
He also said that anyone who voted for Jonathan is as guilty he is "If you voted for Johnathan, you're just as guilty as he is for what has happened" he said

President Buhari Appoints Abdullahi Gana as New NSCDC Commandant

President Buhari has appointed Abdullahi Gana as the new commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC. Special Adviser to Pres. Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, announced the appointment in a statement released.

Until his appointment, Mr Gana was an Assistant Commandant-General of the NSCDC. He takes over from Dr. Ade Abolurin, who has retired. Gana is an indigine of Muye in Lapai LGA of Niger State and graduated from the University of Sokoto.

50 killed in today's bomb blast in Damaturu, 10 year old among female suicide bombers

50 people have been confirmed dead in a twin suicide bomb blast that rocked Damaturu Yobe state this morning. A statement released by the Acting-Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman says an elderly woman and a 10 year old girl were responsible for the attacks.
"This is to confirm that there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7:40 a.m. in Damaturu, Yobe, in which two female suicide bombers — one elderly woman and a ten year-old girl –detonated the devices.
