Release of man convicted over Delhi gang-rape sparks protests

 
The youngest convict in a fatal gang-rape in New Delhi has been released from a youth correctional facility, sparking street protests and condemnation from the victim’s parents.

The rape and murder of 23-year-old student Jyoti Singh on a bus in Delhi in 2012 caused global outrage and triggered reform of legislation relating to sexual offences. Her family allowed her to be named in an attempt to end the stigma facing sex attack victims in India.

German magazine reported yesterday that stricken F1 racing legend Michael Schumacher is now able to take 'tentative' steps with the aid of a carer and has regained slight movement in one arm. The front page in glossy magazine Bunte – headlined 'He can move again' – was published days before the second anniversary of his devastating ski accident in the French Alps in 2013.

President Buhari orders immediate payment of December salaries

Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate payment of December salaries to all Federal civil servants. His directive made known by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who spoke at the end of the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja yesterday Dec. 22nd. She said salaries were already being paid in response to the Presidential directive.
“We are very conscious of the need that people are paid in time for the festive season,” she said. Adeosun added that some workers have already started receiving alerts for their December salary.

EFCC slams theft charge on Tompolo, Akpobolokemi, accuse them of converting NIMASA's $108.7m and N2.2bn properties

 
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 40-count criminal charge of unlawful conversion of $108.7 million and N2.2billion property of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, on the leader of Niger-Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo also known as Tompolo and ex-NIMASA boss, Patrick Akpobolokemi.
