We spend N165bn on salaries and allowances every month - Finance minister

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, today disclosed that the Federal government spends N165 Billion every month to pay salaries.‎ Adeosun disclosed this during a joint meeting with the security chiefs of paramilitary agencies under the ministry of interior on continuous audit and migration from manual to automated payment system in Abuja today May 24th.

Manzo Daniel, The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry in Kaduna state, today disclosed that the state government has declared a state of emergency on tomato following an attack of tomato blight that has wiped out about 80percent of tomato farms in the state. Manzo stated this while speaking at a press briefing to mark the administration's one year in office.

An Egyptian forensic official investigating the crash of EgyptAir Flight 804 says that human remains retrieved from the Mediterranean Sea, which have been examined, point to an explosion taking place on board the aircraft, according to AP.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to release information concerning the investigation, said the forensics team has to deal with very small body parts.

Senator Akpan advocates special amnesty for goverment officials with stolen funds stashed abroad

Senator Bassey Akpan who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas and represents Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, has called on the Federal government to set up a special amnesty programme for former government officials that want to return funds they looted while in office that is stashed away in foreign banks. According to Akpan, the move will help improve Nigeria's foreign exchange. Akpan said this while speaking with National Assembly correspondents yesterday May 23.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan called Thisday newspapers yesterday night, denying claims by the media house that he was in Cote d'Ivoire on a self-imposed exile for fear of being arrested by EFCC operatives. Jonathan in the interview said

“Yes I am in Cote d’Ivoire, I have been here for a week resting and this is my second trip to the country since I stepped down as president. I have made sacrifices for Nigeria. I am praised all over Africa for averting bloodshed and for the peaceful transition from one government to another, but it seems Nigeria does not appreciate my efforts. Legal documents have shown that Celine Dion's husband, René Angélil, who passed away from throat cancer in January, left her as the official administrator of his estate, along with 2 others.

According to TMZ, the documents reveal that René left a will to this effect. He left homes in Canada to two of his kids from his first marriage. He and Celine also have 2 vast estates (a $45 million Florida estate and $25 million Quebec castle), both of which are up for sale.
Once the properties are sold, $9 million will go to a trust (most likely for his three children with Céline). Other properties, furniture, cars, clothing, jewelry and personal effects all go to Celine.
