Taylor Swift tops Forbes' 2016 list of highest paid women in music with $170m in one year

According to Forbes' Highest-Paid Women in Music list for 2016, 26-year-old US Pop star Taylor Swift is the richest female musician. Swift amassed earnings of 170 million US dollars (£137.8m) over the past year. Her earnings are mainly due to her 1989 World Tour raking in a quarter of a billion dollars. She also has lucrative endorsement deals with brands such as Diet Coke, Apple and more.

Wole Soyinka says he will leave United States if Trump is elected president next week

The Nobel literature laureate Wole Soyinka has told students that if Donald Trump is elected president of the United States next week, he will leave the country.

“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that,” said Soyinka, who is scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs this autumn. “The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

Court refuses to order forfeiture of Patience Jonathan’s $15.5 million

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday refused to issue an order for the forfeiture of $15.5million found in the accounts of four companies currently being investigated for fraud and money laundering and have been linked to former first lady, Patience Jonathan.

Pope Francis says women will never be Roman Catholic priests

Pope Francis, has stated that the restriction on women becoming priests will not be lifted. Speaking to a Swedish journalist on Tuesday, during a press conference on-board his papal plane, the Argentine, Pope said:

‘On the ordination of women in the Catholic Church, the last word is clear,' Francis said, referring to an apostolic letter written by Pope John Paul II in 1994. The letter holds that ordaining women was not possible because Jesus chose only men as his apostles. ‘It was given by St. John Paul II, and this stands.

The 45-year-old lost his arms when he accidentally touched a high voltage wire. He says he has taken his disability as 'a gift' and has learnt to do basic tasks such as; shave with his feet, operate his phone with his nose, swim; gym every morning and play tennis using his shoulders.

Woman, her three children, two others die in Kogi State after eating Amala

Six people, including a mother, three of her children and two of their neighbours died on Tuesday, Nov. 1st, in Ogaminana area of Okene in Kogi State after eating a meal made from cassava flour.

The Public Relations Officer of the Adavi Local Government, Mr Abdulhamid Salahudeen, who confirmed the tragic incident said that three of the victims died on Tuesday at the Okene General Hospital while the woman and two of her children had earlier died on Monday in their house.
