Department store collapse in Ghana turns deadly

5 people have been confirmed dead and 68 people pulled out alive from the multi-storey department store that collapsed in Ghana yesterday

A spokeswoman for Ghana's National Disaster Management Organization, said structural weakness had caused the collapse of the Melcom store in Accra's Achimota neighbourhood which was opened early this year and collapsed shortly before the store was due to open for business yesterday morning. Over a 100 people were in the 5-storey complex when it collapsed suddenly.

Rescue efforts is still going on at the site as workers say that they can hear noises from under the rubble and can see hands of people trapped. Sad!

Eddie Murphy is showing off some new arm candy! The 51-year-old funny man's latest gal pal is Paige Butcher, an Australian model who's appeared in Maxim, and is reported to be about 20 years Murphy's junior. Dana Air to acquire new aircraft, assures on safety

Dana Airlines has begin talks with aircraft manufacturers to renew its fleet of aircraft, but declined to state which aircraft type it would acquire.
The airline also assured Nigerians of safety, saying foreign auditors and Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, had subjected its existing aircraft to serious airworthiness scrutiny, preparatory to start of operations.
Dropping the hint yesterday, Head Commercial of Dana Airlines, Mr. Obi Mbanuzuo, who led a delegation of the airline on a courtesy visit to Vanguard, said the measure was to further boost public confidence in the airline, especially against the backdrop of public hysteria for old aircraft.
He said: “Our airplanes have been flying under the inspection of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to check that everything is operationally ready and the aircraft are air worthy.
“We also have a lot of auditing by NCAA to look at our airplane. We also got foreign auditors involved to come and audit our airplanes, just to instill confidence.
“Very soon, our Air Operators Certificate, AOC, would be received, which will enable Dana Airlines commence operation.
“We are also looking at renewing our fleet with more modern and newer aircraft for operational reasons and not because our current fleet of aircraft are not safe for operations.”

Rihanna's new album will include Chris Brown collaboration

It wouldn't be a Rihanna album if it didn't get everyone talking.

After collaborating with Chris Brown on two remixes earlier this year - and rekindling a friendship with him following the dissolution of their relationship in 2009 - RiRi's also revealed that fans will hear him on her new album, as well.

The singer released the official tracklist for her upcoming release, "Unapologetic," and among collaborations with Future and Eminem is one with Brown. The song, perhaps appropriately titled "Nobodies Business," will undoubtedly cause many to read it as "nobody's business."

Frankly, we're more anxious to hear what Rihanna cooked up with Eminem, whom she worked with on the hit, "Love The Way You Lie." What about you?

Aki, Pawpaw visit Delta State flood victims

Nollywood stars, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme popularly known as Aki and Pawpaw respectively, were recently in Delta State, South Nigeria to visit victims of floods in that state.

According to information gathered by Nigeriafilms.com, the duo were invited by the state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan to psychologically help the victims of the natural disaster that hit some communities across Nigeria.

Aki and Pawpaw were reportedly well received by the victims of the flood who were happy to see their movie stars come visit with them in their time of trouble.

The two make-believe stars didn't fail to deliver the succour they were contracted to render at the rehabilitation camps set up in Delta State for the flood victims.

Nadia Buari, Jim Iyke to run for charity

Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari and Nollywood super star, Jim Iyke are expected to take part in a charity marathon race for Ugandan orphanages.

According to information gathered by Nigeriafilms.com from a reliable source, the two screen icons will storm Uganda during this year’s international film festival called 'The Nile Diaspora'.

The event will be held in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and other towns across that country from December 8 to December 15, 2012.

Apart from the race, Nadia and Jim will be presented with awards during their visit to the country.

A representative of the African Film Consortium, Omar Oyin Bala, who is the festival's West Africa representative, also confirmed to Nigeriafilms.com that the marathon race will help raise funds for ‘devastated’ orphanages in Uganda.

Expected to attend the festival are Tonya Lee Williams of the Young and Restless, the CEO of Reelworld Film Festival in Canada amongst others.

Fight: Fans vs Tonto Dike brewing again?

Tonto Dike has appeared in our faces again barely a month after that messy fight with fans on the battle grounds of twitter, this time with a tweet not about her music, movies or tattoo, but rather, on the state of her virginity which she’s publicly announced was lost to Mavin crew Boss Don Jazzy.
Her tweet read ‘I got disvirgined by @DONJAZZY” i think this a lil bit Too Much info.’
She is not alone on this thought as a lot of her followers on twitter also think the same way and it’s beginning to generate an uproar.

Already Don Jazzy has tried making a joke of it by quickly re-tweeting ‘lol me dat im still a V,’ (‘V’ standing in as Virgin).
Fans, however, are not sniffing the lighter side of this development as many have pounced on the tweet by Tonto alleging she’s going low and desperately trying to remain in the public eye with such tweets. Others claim it was unnecessary, joke or no joke.
As another army of willing fighters grow again, Tonto Dike has thankfully remained silent.
This writer hopes she does, for just one counter word from her and another bitter, messy war with fans could begin again.
Fans had attacked her in October after she reacted to tweets about her new single. Both sides had called each other names until Tonto Dike stopped responding.

2face Idibia is rarely in the news except for brief announcements of his many country tours and ofcourse the period he proposed to and married Annie Macaulay. He’s however making headlines for a new reason now.
A birth control pill (names withheld)  being rumored to be banned soon by the federal government is a hot topic on twitter but not because of the drugs alleged ban, rather it’s for the star, 2face, who has been roped into the story and he’s not finding this funny.

In a swift reaction, the enter the place crooner has taken to twitter to caution those tweeting @2face Idibia about the ban on the birth control pill and making jokes out of it.

D’banj lives his dream… wins MOBO award

Dapo Oyebanjo’s dreams are unfolding before his own eyes; he wanted to make collaborations with international acts, he got it, he wanted to be signed with an international label and be a heavy weight on the music stage, he got it, and  now, aside his many awards,  D’banj has just won this year’s Music of Black Origin MOBO award.

The Koko master beat stiff competition to clinch this prize as pop heavy weights P-Square  and the very best of African acts including Spoek Mathambo, Fally Ipupa, Sarkodie, Cabo Snoop, Camp Mulla and Amadou and Mariam had all been in his way.
This award had evaded him for a long time; beaten last year by the star-on-fire Wizkid.
Dbanj by this award joins the list of past winners  2face Idibia (2007) 9ice (2008) and Nneka (2009).

   

Paul Okoye and girlfriend expecting a baby

Paul Okoye, the other half of twin singing sensation, P-Square, is going to be a father soon and this is authoritative. His long-term girlfriend Anita, who's currently doing her Masters at the University of Dundee, Scotland, is said to be many months along with the couple's first child.
