Fashola arrests policeman riding ‘okada’ on express road

Governor Fashola on Thursday November 29th ordered the arrest of a policeman riding a motorcycle on Lagos/Abeokuta expressway.

The governor spotted the policeman when his convoy was passing on the Ikeja section of the expressway. Policemen in the governor’s convoy effected the arrest and immediately whisked him away in their van.

Reps probe Orubebe’s multi-billion naira mansion

The House of Representatives on Thursday ordered an investigation into a “multi-billion naria” mansion said to belong to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godsday Orubebe.

The property, located at Mabushi in the Federal Capital Territory, was said to have been built for the minister by a construction firm, SETRACO.

Pregnant Nollywood Actress Silifa Ladeji Beaten to Death by Lover

News reaching us from the Yoruba movie industry, otherwise known as ANTP, indicates that one of the fast rising actresses, Silifa Ladeji famously known as Silifonia, was on Wednesday beaten to death by her lover during a misunderstanding.
A close friend of the late Silifonia, who is also an actress, said that Silifonia who was heavily pregnant before her sudden demise had been a victim of battery and assault in the hands of her lover.

Plane crash: Suntai’s aides return

Two of the three aides to Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai returned on Thursday a few weeks after they were flown to Germany for medical attention following a plane crash involving the governor in Yola in October.

Obama-Romney Lunch: Former Foes Meet At White House

 

Mitt Romney will have a private lunch with President Obama at the White House on Thursday, their first meeting since the Republican nominee lost the election to the incumbent Nov. 6.

 The White House revealed Wednesday that the men will have lunch in the private dining room of the White House. It will be their first extensive meeting ever; other than their three debates during the fall campaign, Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney have had only a few brief encounters.

 “It will be the first opportunity they have had to visit since the election,” the White House said in a statement. “There will be no press coverage of the meeting.”

Nigerian National Basketball Player killed mysteriously in Texas

"Police are searching for motive in the early morning shooting of acclaimed basketball star Chinedu Onyeuku who police said had been seen breaking and entering an apartment in the Texas town of Plano.
According to local police, the owner of the Rio Grande Drive apartment said he saw two men on his patio at about 3 a.m. A glass door was smashed and the resident pulled out a shotgun and blasted the two men. Onyeuku, age 29, was killed at the scene but the man managed to escape.

Fausat Balogun buried in Brazil

 Wondering who Fausat Balogun is or was in this case? Well, she's the 72 year old woman who was arrested in Brazil for carrying drugs.

Unfortunately she passed away on the 30th of October, 2012 due to a mild stroke caused by the high blood pressure which she'd been suffering from before arriving at the penitentiary. She died at the hospital for women inside the penitentiary in Brazil.

No family member came for her body so she was buried at the Vila Formosa Municipal Graveyard in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The trip to Brazil was actually her first time out of Nigeria, and some heartless people decided to use her as a drug courier without her knowledge. She died in that country and was buried there. Truly sad!

Sanusi calls for the sack of 50% of civil servants in Nigeria

The Central Bank governor on Monday called for the sack of 50% of civil servants in Nigeria because according to him, 'the country spends 70 per cent of its earnings on salaries and entitlements of civil servants.'

“You have to fire half of the civil service because the revenue of the government is supposed to be for 167 million Nigerians. Any society where government spends 70 per cent of its revenue on its civil service has a problem. It is unsustainable,” he said.

Organized Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, the Civil Liberties Organisation and Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union, have all condemned his statement, some asking for his immediate sack.

General Buhari loses first daughter

 The first daughter of former Head of State and national leader of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Gen. Muhammad Buhari (rtd), has died.

Zulai Buhari died yesterday evening in a hospital in Kaduna just two days after giving birth to a daughter. She was 40. She is survived by  her husband, Captain Mahmud Junaid and three children, including the new born baby who is said to be healthy and doing well.

Zulai was put to rest yesterday night in Kaduna according to Islamic rights.May her soul rest in peace.

Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina has miraculously emerged unscathed after wrecking her Chevy Camaro in a frightening car crash moments ago ... TMZ has learned. The accident just went down in Alpharetta, Georgia -- law enforcement tells us a passer-by noticed Bobbi's car all smashed up in an embankment and called 911. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Bobbi Kristina was standing next to her vehicle and appeared to be uninjured. Cops conducted an official accident investigation -- and believe Bobbi Kristina simply lost control of her car while making a left turn out of her apartment complex ... and drove over a curb and down an embankment, striking several small trees along the way.

Mosunmola married the son of a former police chief and Niger State Military administrator, Simeon Oduoye, early this year. Congrats to them!

Police raid mainland clubs, Basketmouth's Embarssy lounge affected

On Friday November 23rd, the Nigerian police, without warning or any particular reason, raided four clubs located on University Road, Akoka, Yaba Lagos. The raid, led by the DPO from Yabo-Sabo police station, affected Basketmouth's EmBARssy lounge located at 12 University Rd, where at least 10 individuals were arrested without any reason. They were released the next day.

The police officers were said to have harassed and arrested people at will in the midnight raid which saw them roving all around the clubs and lounges in three Black-Maria and two Hilux vehicles.

However, one club (Road Runners) which was relaunching that same night was not raided like the others in the neighbourhood, prompting other patrons to ask questions. Please continue...

FEC approves N2.2bn 150-seater banquet hall for Aso Rock Villa

The federal government of Nigeria wants to spend over two billion Naira for a 150-seater banquet hall. Not a 5, 000-seater hall o, just 150 seats! Does that make sense to you guys?

Meanwhile, there's an existing banquet hall in the Villa o. This one is just to waste money and share the remaining.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed, said the proposed hall, which will be constructed by Julius Berger, will have walk ways, security post, hall conveniences, technical room and press briefing room. For N2.2bn?

Isn't there a way civil societies in Nigeria can stop all these unnecessarily spending by taking the federal government to court? Isn't there a way, we as citizens, can check our government?
