Goodluck Jonathan’s brother laid to rest in Bayelsa

President Goodluck Jonathan has described the death of his younger brother, Chief Meni Jonathan as too painful to bear. Jonathan made the statement on Saturday at Meni's funeral, held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Otuoke in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa state. It will be recalled that Meni died on November 20 at the National Hospital, Abuja. Jonathan said he had ordered that Meni be flown to Abuja after he noticed that the young man was looking frail when he visited home on a Friday, sometime last November. Jonathan said he would particularly miss his younger brother as he has been covering the home front in his absence. Governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta and Peter Obi of Anambra state and other top government officials were at the funeral. May his soul rest in peace.

Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt purchase wedding rings?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are one step closer to tying the knot, reportedly purchasing wedding rings from Los Angeles jeweler Neil Lane.
A stylist for the actress told In Touch Weekly she was sent to pick up the rings.

Pitt, 48, recently hinted he and Jolie, 37, would marry soon.
“I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come,” he said at last month’s premiere of his new film, “Killing Them Softly."

4 university students die in Ibadan auto crash

Four students - three guys and a girl - died in the early hours of Monday morning in an auto crash around high-court area of Ring Road Ibadan. The students were heading to Koko Dome night club for a party hosted by some Lead City students when the car they were riding in hit another car and somersaulted multiple times. The four students were said to have died on the spot. So sad. May their souls rest in peace...Amen.

Mother Of Nigeria's Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Kidnapped In Delta State

Mother of Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was kidnapped on Sunday from the palace of the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-uku,  Obi (Prof.) Chukwuka Okonjo.
Mrs. Kanene Okonjo, 82 , the queen mother of Ogwashi uku was abducted around 1:47PM by a gang of armed men who seized her at the gate of the palace at Ogbe-ofu and took her away while  the husband had traveled out of town.
The police said they arrested a man who allegedly left the compound few minutes before the incident took place.
The finance minister is currently in Abuja making arrangements with security agents to free her mother according to family sources.

Confirmed: Mahama wins 2012 presidential election

The Chairman for the Electoral Commission, Dr kwadwo Afari Gyan has declared Ghana’s incumbent president John Dramani Mahama, the winner of the 2012 presidential elections.
President Mahama who ran on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), polled 5,574,761 representing 50.70% to win the polls held on Friday and Saturday.
The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akufo-Addo had 5,248,898 of the valid votes cast, representing 47.74%.
Out of a total of 14,158,890 registered voters, 11,246,982 voters exercised their franchise. 10,995,262 of this number were deemed valid. The total rejected votes stood at 251,720. The turnout in the 275 constituencies is 79.43%
The flag-bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom placed third in the elections with 64,362 votes representing 0.59.
Multimedia’s Elections Headquarters had projected that incumbent president would win the poll.
The EC’s results virtually confirmed the projected results of Joy FM.
There are wild celebrations on major streets and pubs across the country.

Why did Jacintha Saldanha commit suicide over a prank?

Some things don't make sense to me and this is one of them. She had two teenage kids, a husband and a loving family and still killed herself over a prank? Jacintha Saldanha (pictured above left) is the 46 year old nurse who killed herself after being duped by a hoaxer pretending to be the Queen. Three days before her death, Mrs Saldanha was manning the hospital switchboard where Kate Middleton was taken to for acute morning sickness when she took a call from two Australian radio presenters – Mel Greig and Michael Christian – (pictured above right) impersonating the Queen and Prince Charles. They were transferred to the Duchess’s ward and broadcast confidential information given to them by a second nurse. Although she wasn’t blamed in any way for what happened, friends said Mrs Saldanha ‘took it very badly’ when prank was broadcast.
She was found dead on Friday morning in the nurses’ accommodation at the hospital. May her soul rest in peace.

Voting in Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary polls on Friday was extended to the following day due to delays linked to problems with a new biometric identification system, an electoral official said.

Kate Middleton Hospital Nurse Found Dead After Radio Prank ... Suicide Suspected

8:30 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops are NOT planning on conducting a criminal investigation into the death at this point ... and believe there was no foul play.

We're told a post-mortem examination (autopsy) is currently being scheduled and is expected to be conducted in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Kate and William's rep has issued a statement on behalf of the royals saying they are "deeply saddened" by the news ... adding, "Their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

Notorious B.I.G. autopsy released, 15 years after his death

The autopsy report for slain rap star Notorious B.I.G. has finally been released 15 years after his death in Los Angeles, but the 23-page document provided no new clues as to who shot Biggie, it was revealed yesterday.
The drive-by shooting of the Brooklyn native — whose real name was Christopher Wallace — has never been solved.
The long-sealed autopsy report revealed the fatal shot punctured B.I.G.’s colon, liver, heart and lung, while other bullets hit his arm, back and thigh.

Jonathan’s foreign trips gulp N3.3bn …travelled 20 times in 2012

Billions of naira of taxpayers’ money have been expended on the foreign trips of President Goodluck Jonathan despite his January promise to cut down on such trips.

This newspaper’s findings show that the President and his entourage have spent not less than N3.354bn on foreign trips since 2010.

Our correspondent learnt that in the first 11 months of 2012, the President had travelled out of the country at least 20 times, including his trip to Sierra Leone in October and the D8 Summit he attended in Pakistan in November.

Mint Scandal: N2.1 Billion Worth Of N1,000 Notes Missing

The board of directors of the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) met two day ago over the scandal that rocked the establishment where it was revealed that a whopping N2.1 billion of newly printed N1,000 notes have mysteriously gone missing.

The board meeting, chaired by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, decided to expand the investigation and audit the production of other currency denominations to ascertain the quantity of money that has actually gone missing over the years.

LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported that an acting managing director, Ahmed Bamali, had been appointed to head the Mint company while Ehi Okomoyon, who was the chief executive, was asked to proceed on indefinite leave.

Sambo Asks For Extra N9b For New Home

The Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory has rejected plans by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to spend additional N9bn on the provision of infrastructure at the yet-to-be-completed residence of the Vice-President.

The committee, which visited the building site in Abuja on Thursday, refused to accept explanations from FCTA officials that N9bn more be sunk into the project.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who led members of his committee to the site, said such a huge amount was unjustifiable in the face of abject poverty in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Adamu Ismail, told the committee that the project was awarded in 2009 at a cost of N7bn.

He said the additional fund was needed to provide furniture, fencing, two protocol guest houses, a banquet hall and other security gadgets.

Kate Middleton Off to the Palace!

Kate Middleton has finally been discharged from the hospital ... after several days of treatment for "acute morning sickness" ... and now the Duchess says she's headed back to her palace to rest.

Kate was all smiles on her way out of the King Edward VII Hospital in Central London ... clutching some flowers ... and getting some assistance from her hubby Prince William.
Afterward, Kate's team of Royal statement writers released the following royal statement, "The Duchess of Cambridge has been discharged from the King Edward VII Hospital and will now head to Kensington Palace for a period of rest."
“Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank the staff at the hospital for the care and treatment the Duchess has received.”
