Lagos State to introduce cable car transit in 2015

A cable car company, Ropeways Transport Limited, is set to make a name for itself in the history of Nigeria by launching a cable car mass urban transit system in the nation’s commercial capital, Lagos.

This followed the signing of a 30-year franchise agreement between Ropeways Transport Limited, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos State government recently.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ropeways Transport will this November begin the construction of towers, stations and connecting network cables along various routes covered in the first phase of the project, namely, Ijora – Iddo, Iddo – Adeniji; Apapa – Oluwole, Oluwole – Adeniji, Adeniji – Obalende, Obalende – Falomo, and Falomo – Victoria Island. The project is expected to be fully completed and commissioned by early 2015.
The Lagos cable car transit system would provide an alternative means of mass transportation in the city and it will help ease the current transportation hassles in Lagos

Patrice Motsepe-South Africa's only black billionaire donates half his fortune 2 charity

South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has donated half of his $2.65 billion to charity. The beneficiary is the Motsepe Foundation, which was founded in 1999 by the billionaire and his wife, Precious.
"I decided quite some time ago to give at least half of the funds generated by our family assets to uplift poor and other disadvantaged and marginalised South Africans.
"I was also a beneficiary of various people, black and white, in South Africa and in the US who educated, trained, mentored and inspired me and whose faith and belief in me contributed to my success in my profession, business and elsewhere. The same can be said about my wife, Precious, and we are deeply indebted to them and many more.
"Most of our donations have been private, but the need and challenges are great, and we hope that our Giving Pledge will encourage others in South Africa, Africa and other emerging economies to give and make the world a better place." Motsepe said
Giving Pledge is a campaign founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett in 2010, which encourages wealthy people to donate their fortune to charity. As of November 2012, 91 billionaires - mostly Americans, have committed to the pledge. Motsepe is the first African to do this.

Japanese pop star shaves hair & makes public apology for dating

20 year old Japanese pop star, Minami Minegishi, was made to shave her hair and make a public apology for - wait for this - spending the night with her boyfriend! Lol. What???

Minami, who is a member of popular Japanese girl's band AKB48, made the tearful apology after a gossip magazine in her country printed photos of her leaving her boyfriend's house after spending the night with him. She actually covered her face with surgical mask and a baseball cap, but she was still discovered.

Her band has a strict rule that members are not allowed to be involved in any sexual relations and her group management made her shave her hair, which is a traditional act of contrition in Japan and make an apology video which was posted on the band's website, then Youtube.

In the video, Minami said she had been thoughtless and immature and was very sorry. *can't watch*. See the video after the cut...

Akpabio - "Governor Chime will return to office in 10 day. Quote me"

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio said yesterday that ailing Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime will return to the country in the next ten days. Governor Chime has been receiving treatment in a London hospital since September last year.
Akpabio said:
“I was part of the delegation that visited the governor in London and I brought a message of goodwill to His Excellency, the governor of Enugu State and like I said, we must learn to mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. Should Reverend King die by hanging?

A Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos yesterday ruled that Rev King, the General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly who was arrested and sentenced to death six years ago for murder, must die by hanging.

Reverend Chukwuemeka Ezeuko aka Rev King was arrested, prosecuted and sentenced to death by hanging in January 2007 for the death of one of his church members, a young girl named Ann Uzoh, who he set ablaze by pouring fuel on her along with 6 other church members after accusing them of committing fornication in his church. Ann died in hospital from injuries she sustained from the burn. Rev King has been in prison since then awaiting his death sentence, which he appealed and failed.

What's your thoughts on this? Think he deserves the death sentence

Veteran actor, Natty - 'I don’t want to act poor, die poor'

Culled from Punch
He cut a pathetic picture; helplessness was written all over him. It was hard to imagine that someone who had gained national popularity on the rested New Masquerade series and home videos could be cut down by illness, poverty and neglect.
That is the story of Mr. Romanus Uchenna Amuta aka Natty. It was a tough job getting him to speak, as a stroke had left him with slurred speech and sluggish movements. Sitting before the reporter was a shadow of the crafty and witty character, which he cut as Natty.
“If government does not come to help me now, then I will die very soon,” were the few words he let out with great effort.

A Nigerian girl left disfigured after acid was thrown in her face as she walked home

20 year old Naomi Oni was disfigured for life when a unknown person wearing a niqab threw acid in her face as she walked home from work on Sunday December 30th in Lodge Avenue Dagenham, east London.

Naomi told The Evening Standard that she was on her way back from work when  she heard someone behind her. She explains:
'I’d been working a late shift and was talking to my boyfriend about what we were going to do for New Year when I saw this Muslim woman wearing a niqab covering her face. I thought it was a bit strange at that time of night, but she didn’t say anything and I kept on walking.
'Then I felt a splash on my face. It burned and I screamed out. I started running and screaming, holding my face, all the way home. I didn’t look back. I got home and I was screaming and banging on the door. I was hysterical. Luckily my godmother, who is a pharmacist, was at home with my mum and she helped me and kept dipping my face in water and trying to calm me down until the police and ambulance got there.
'I was in shock. Saying: "Who would do that? Who would do that?" How could anyone do this?'.
