Kafilat Lateef was a young woman of 36 years. Widowed five years ago and left with three children, she must have felt the absence of a companion which made her yield to the love overtures of Gbenga Taiwo, then a plank seller at Bodija market, Ibadan. Their paths had crossed over two years ago, as she was also a trader in foodstuffs at the same market.

Happy that she had found love again, Kafilat put in all she had into the relationship. Her family members were also happy that she was looking bright again. Putting her trust in the man she had had intimacy with several times since their relationship started, Kafilat did not think twice when Taiwo called her on January 19 , inviting her to Oyo town, where he had relocated since 2012. She returned to Ibadan on January 20 and went back to Oyo on January 21. He reportedly told her to come for the N50,000 he promised her.

 Residents of Ogida quarters in Benin City were shocked last Saturday when they woke to see a house wife (names withheld) shouting and pleading for help.

They rushed to the house only to discover that the woman was raped by three young men who stormed the house at about 3am. They further discovered the victim’s husband who was tied by the robbers and pushed under the bed.

The suspects Peter Anigboro (25 years old), Lucky Williams (22) and Olise Friday, forced the door of the residence of the victim open with an impoverished gun and a dagger.

3 Journalists arrested for polio vaccine killings

Three Nigerian journalists have been arrested for allegedly inciting violence against polio workers, Reuters reported. On Friday, gunmen in Kano State killed nine people, who had been giving patients the polio vaccine. The arrested journalists are accused of inspiring the attacks.

The journalists had said on Wazobia FM on Wednesday that immunisation against polio was anti-Islam and part of a Western conspiracy to cause infertility, Kano Police Chief Ibrahim Idris, told Reuters.

The killing of the vaccinators is a major setback in Nigeria’s fight against polio. “The killing of polio vaccinators in Kano State is a dastardly act that must be condemned by all,” he told All Africa.

Coach Stephen Keshi Withdraws his resignation

Below is a press statement the Super Eagles coach released early this morning...

My attention has been drawn to reports in the media that I have resigned my appointment as the Head Coach of Super Eagles of Nigeria.

While I have had cause to express my displeasure over some issues that happened in the course of our participation in the AFCON 2013, which my team won by the grace of God, especially concerning my relationship with the Nigerian Football Federation, I have since had opportunity to discuss the various issues with all concerned. I am therefore pleased to say that I have reconsidered my position and have decided to continue with my job.

I want to thank the Honourable Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, for his swift and kind intervention.

Keshi withdrew his  resignation after a meeting with the Sports Minister yesterday. Coach Keshi and the Super Eagles boarded their flight about 7am this morning to commence their journey back to Nigeria.

Billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga donated 1million dollars to the Super Eagles for winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He also made a special donation of $200, 000 to coach Stephen Keshi. Adenuga also promised to take over the payment of Keshi's salary from next month...unfortunately the coach has resigned.

Aliko Dangote had earlier given the Super Eagles N130million. We are now waiting for what the Federal government has for them.

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi resigns

One day after winning the Africa Nations cup, coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has resigned as the coach of the Super Eagles. He handed over his resignation letter to the Nigerian Football Federation after a dramatic falling out with the Federation. He said something about not being given a free hand by the minister.

2011 Miss Lacasera loses elder sister in horrific car crash

Miss Lacasera 2011, Nwando Ebeledike (left) lost her elder sister, Chisom Ebeledike (right) in a horrific car crash in the wee hours of Saturday February 2nd around Lekki, Lagos.

24 year old Chisom was driving alone in her Honda Element after leaving a bar early that morning when she lost control of her car. The element somersaulted several times before crashing into an electric pole. The car was totaled and Chisom died instantly. Her car was later toled from the scene of the accident to a police stateion, while her body was taken to the mortuary.

Chisom used to live in the UK before relocating to Nigeria a few years back. So sad! May her soul rest in peace...amen.

EFCC re-arraigns Femi Fani-Kayode over alleged money laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday re-arraigned a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over alleged money laundering.

Fani-Kayode appeared before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court in Lagos, on a 47-count charge. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Chief Ladi Williams, prayed the court to allow him to continue with the bail granted him by Justice Ramat Mohammed, who earlier handled the case.

Nse Ikpe Etim to wed February 14th

The actress who got engaged around Christmas 2012 will be getting married this week, February 14th..or maybe Feb 13th.

Nse is marrying a man she dated when she much younger. They broke up many years back but re-connected recently. He is UK based so she will be relocating to the UK after the wedding, though sources close to the actress tell me she will continue acting. Just like Uche Jombo R, she will be in Nigeria when she needs to be.
