Father ties, locks up six-year-old daughter for witchcraft

A 42-year-old father, Mr. Edet Etok-Akpan, is currently being quizzed at the headquarters of the Cross River State Police Command in Calabar for torturing his six-year-old daughter, Edidiong, as a result of a church prophetess’ pronouncement that the girl was a witch.
Edidiong was beaten by her father and locked up in a room with her hands, mouth and face bound for four days before she was rescued by neighbours.

67yr old woman found dead after meeting with Nigerian man

Below is how WA Today is reporting it...
A widowed grandmother who travelled to South Africa to marry the man she loved has been found dead under suspicious circumstances in a Johannesburg guest house.
West Australian woman Jette Jacobs, 67 (pictured left), was found in February, two days after she met up with a man calling himself Jesse Orowo Omokoh, 28. (pictured right)
The pair had met on an online dating website.
Ms Jacobs had travelled to Africa to meet the Nigerian before, in a long distance relationship spanning three years and seeing the widow part with $200,000.
But this time they were to be married. She wanted to settle in Nigeria. Her children had begged her to stay in WA. Her body was discovered in her rented villa by South African police on February 9.

Abia State University withdraws Orji Uzor Kalu's 1st degree certificate

Abia state University has withdrawn the degree certificate awarded to former Governor and businessman, Orji Uzor Kalu.

The Registrar of the University, Mr. O. Onuoha made this known on Saturday, after the University Senate had convened for an emergency meeting. According to Onuoha, Orji Kalu's certificate was withdrawn because he did not complete the required number of semesters and he was an Absentee student.
“The decision of senate was based on the following grounds among others:
*The violation of the Academic Regulations of the university on Admission – by –Transfer, which rendered the offer irregular , ab initio.
*The non –completion of the mandatory six (6) semesters ( i.e. three academic years of study), before he was awarded a degree of the university.
He spent only two semesters in all.

New Video: Samklef Ft Jesse Jagz - The Rain

                               
This is his 1st video project since Molowo Noni in 2011 as he's been busy with family and putting together his production school "Samklef Academy" as well as setting up his label "Klefsound Records" to proper standards with a $100k audiovisual studio project. Several other video projects are in the works at the moment as he's looking to release his sophomore album later this year.

Queen Elizabeth hospitalised

Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalized this morning with suspected gastroenteritis. Otherwise known as “stomach flu”. The condition is an inflammation of the stomach lining that causes rather unroyal and unpleasant symptoms.

All of the queen’s official engagements for the week have been postponed or cancelled, but a palace spokesman said the 86-year-old monarch was only admitted “as a precautionary measure” and is expected to stay at London’s King Edward VII Hospital for two days.

Nigerian woman arrested for drugs trafficking in Turkey

Another drug issue has taken place in Istanbul (Turkey) when a 66-year-old Nigerian woman was caught with over 1 kg cocaine in her wig. The police operation was recorded on cameras, and the moments were released in footage.

The 66-year-old Jose O., a Nigerian citizen was detected to be a drug courier by the police. She was monitored before being caught in a hotel in Istanbul’s Laleli neighbourhood of Fatih district. An amount of 1 kg and 40 gram cocaine was found in her wig.

The old woman appeared in Istanbul Courthouse before she was sent to Bakirkoy Prison for Woman and Juvenile

President Jonathan hosts presidential dinner to celebrate Nollywood at 20

Nollywood stars met with President Jonathan yesterday Saturday March 2nd at the State House in Marina, Lagos. The president hosted a presidential dinner to celebrate Nollywood at 20. First Lady Patience Jonathan, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra State governors and lots of important people were at the dinner.

Here's what I was able to gather from the event. Guests arrived at TBS from where they were conveyed to the State house in a coastal bus. Cocktail started at 5-6:30pm. Main dinner started at 8pm. All the important people in Nollywood were at the event - Genevieve Nnaji, Chidi Mokeme, Aki and Paw Paw, Olu and Joke Jacobs, Segun Arinze, Stephanie Linus, Patience Ozokwor, Zack Orji, Madam Kofo, Desmond Elliot, Chiwetalu Agu, Cynthia Amadi, Amaka Igwe, Dickson Iroegbu, Zeb and Chico Ejiro, Kunle Afolayan, Tunde Kelani, Andy Chukwu and several others.

American Idol ratings drop low

When American Idol producers added Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj to the judges panel they expected a jump in ratings. The complete opposite has happened...

Last Wednesday American Idol pulled in 13.1 million viewers, it's lowest Wednesday night rating since the singing competition show debuted back in 2002.

This marks the third week in a row that the ratings have gone down. American Idol season 12 premiered January 16, 2013 with 17.8 million viewers. Last year's season finale aired May 23, 2012 with 21.49 million viewers.

Horrifying moment student stabs classmate outside their college

CCTV captured the exact moment a student, Valentine Cannings, 22, brutally plunged a knife into his classmate's stomach and left him for dead, after claiming he gave him 'dodgy looks'. Valentine Cannings (pictured to the right of CCTV image) viciously stabbed his victim, 17 year old Kevin Linongi, with a large hunting knife outside Bournville College's campus in Longbridge Lane, Birmingham on October 12, 2012.

Valentine Cannings was jailed for seven years on Friday March 1st for the attack after pleading guilty to wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Information on fire outbreak at M-Net studios in Ojota yesterday

Below is a statement released by M-Net...
It has been confirmed that a fire broke out yesterday afternoon (Saturday March 2, 2013) at the Ojoto Studios facility, which is home to both M-Net and SuperSport productions in Nigeria.  At this time, the fire is under control and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze. Whilst the fire appears to have caused significant damage to the facility, which may result in some screening delays for programs recorded on site, M-Net and SuperSport are already hard at work with a view to resuming production as soon as possible in order to minimize any impact on viewing audiences at home.  Further M-Net, SuperSport and MultiChoice are deeply thankful and grateful that no-one was injured during this unfortunate incident.

Governor Sullivan Chime flown abroad again for medical treatment

There are reports making the rounds that two weeks after Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime returned to Nigeria after spending four months in a UK hospital, that he has been flown abroad again for medical attention. No word yet on when he travelled or the country he traveled to...

Denrele Edun's family attacked by armed robbers at their home

Denrele Edun and his family were attacked by armed robbers around 3am early this morning at their family home on Borno Way, Ebute Metta, Yaba. Denrele, his sister, father, grandmother and cousins were all home when the 5 armed men broke into their home. They carted away property - grandma's jewellery, cash, phones, laptops, watches, gadgets and a brand new plasma screen - but thankfully no one was seriously injured. The insecurity in this country...Dear Lord!
