RIP to the secondary school students killed on Saturday in Yobe state

Gunmen believed to be members of Boko Haram stormed Government Secondary School in Mamudo Yobe state on Saturday July 6th and killed at least 29 students and one teacher.

Eyewitnesses and other students who survived the attack said the gunmen gathered the students, put them in one of the hostel rooms, threw explosives and opened fire, killing at least 29 students and wounding others. Some victims had their body parts blown off, some were badly burnt, while others had only gun shot wounds.

Following the violent attack, the Governor of Yobe State, ordered all secondary schools in the state to be shut down until September.

This killing is the third attack on secondary school students in less than a month. On June 16, suspected members of Boko Haram killed seven students of a secondary school in Damaturu, then the next day, June 17, nine students sitting for an exam at a Secondary School in Jajeri ward in Maiduguri, Borno State were killed. RIP to the young ones we have lost.

Close up breaks world record with teeth brushing challenge

Over 300,000 young Nigerians gathered at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos, as well as other locations around the state, to participate in the World Record breaking Teeth brushing challenge. The challenge sponsored by leading oral care brand, Close Up toothpaste, in partnership with Lagos State government, Nigerian Dental Association (NDA), HEIT Solutions, Vas2Net & Core Media, saw various school students take part in brushing their teeth at the same time at different locations.

The founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations turned 50 on June 12th and shunned all forms of celebration put together by his church members, choosing instead to celebrate by communicating with God at the 'mountains'. He explains why:

"There was a divine message to me to shun all activities on my 50th. I don't act if I don't get the call. There's a need to keep one's life in prayer. What I need now is more commitment and time with God and not celebrating. I will only celebrate when I'm 60. That is when I will forget about 50. Even the little activity put together by my church members, they know they were not celebrating Mr T.B Joshua rather Prophet T.B Joshua and it is their divine duty to do so.

50Cent sends abusive text messages to his 15 year-old son

Radar Online today published a series of text message which they claim is a text exchange between rapper 50cent and his 15 year old son, Marquise Jackson. This heated exchange between father and son apparently happened before 50cent was arrested last week for allegedly attacking his baby mama.

The abusive exchange, which began at 10.59 p.m and lasted for more than an hour according to RO, started after Marquis failed to open the door when 50cent came to see him. The rapper called his son 'f*cking stupid', a 'sh*t head' a 'motherf*cker.' and said said he no longer had a son. Radar claim they verified the texts originated from a cell phone registered to G Unit Touring, the record label created and owned by 50 Cent. With his latest victory at the Supreme Court, it is perhaps time for the Delta State governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan to sleep, at least, with one eye closed. Oh yes, with his seemingly uneding travails in the seat of power in Asaba, there’s every reason for the medical doctor-turned politician to keep that second eye perpetually open; there may just be some more ‘battles’ to fight ahead of the 2015 elections.

The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) candidate, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, had approached the court seeking for an order to set aside the March 21, 2012 judgment, which affirmed Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the April 2011 election.

The actress and her fiance had their traditional marriage some months ago. They are presently at the Ikoyi registry where they have gone to make it legal.Their wedding reception follows immediately at Oriental Hotel. Congrats to them.

LUTH acquires wonder scanner that detects death in 10 seconds

Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH said they have acquired a CT scan equipment that has the capacity to run a check on all organs of the body, from head to toe in less than 10 seconds and fish out a patients death points for immediate treatment. The machine, called the 128-slice Aquillon CT scanner is the first of it's kind in West Africa.

Speaking on the machine, the Chief Medical Director, LUTH, Professor Akin Osibogun told Nigerian Tribune:

"The Aquillon CT scanner is a 128-scanner and the main advantage it has over other CT scanners of earlier generations is its ability to penetrate deeper into the tissues and organs to show clearly the state of those tissues and organs. Of course the CT scanner is an imaging device and because it is able to provide images of tissues and organs inside the body. We are able to see the state in which those tissues and organs are and we are able to make diagnosis that help us to provide appropriate treatment for the patients.

Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 carrying 307 people (291 passengers and 16 crew members) and flying from Seoul, South Korea to the US crashed and burst into flames as it came to land at San Francisco International Airport yesterday morning Saturday July 6th.

Of the 307 passengers, only two died. The victims have been identified as Chinese school girls, 16 year old Ye Mengyuan and Wang Linjia. Their bodies were found on the runway after the tail of the aircraft was torn off . The two girls were part of a group of 29 students and five teachers who were on a class trip to the US. They were all seated near the back of the plane when it crashed during landing.

180 people suffered various injuries, five people, including two children have been listed in critical condition.

Of the 307 passengers, 41 of them were Chinese, 77 were South Korean, 61 were Americans and 1 was Japanese. More photos from the plane crash after the cut...

Nigerian church leaders react to John & Love Kumuyi's suspension

The son of the General-Superintendent of Deeper Life, Pastor William Kumuyi, was suspended after his wife wore a wedding dress the church termed 'inappropriate'. If you missed it, read the story here

Church leaders are now reacting to the suspension of John and Love Kumuyi, calling it hypocritical. The General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare said:

“I personally did not see what they have done wrong. A man is entitled to his own authority in his own home.1st Peter Chapter 3. A wife should dress to please the husband and not the members of the church or public. It’s sheer wickedness to the couple, they should leave them to enjoy their honeymoon. They should not squeeze them to the modus operandi of a particular organization. I did not see anything wrong in the wedding. The bride was not naked or dressed inappropriately and the groom didn’t. Esther the queen was beautifully dressed in the bible to gain the king’s attention. They should not make mountain out of a molehill. I was in the Deeper Life Bible Church for five years and nobody compelled me to dress the way I dressed. My wife was with me in the church though we weren’t married then. She wears earrings and dresses nicely. All this talk about this couple should stop.”

Wonder they say shall never end! A 23 year old man getting married to a woman old enough to be his grandmother in Lagos. Lol! Dear readers would you do that for love or money?

Nigerian Canadian girl produces track on Jay Z's new album

Jay Z picked a 16 year old Nigerian Canadian girl named Ebony Oshunrinde produced a track on his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Ebony, known also as Wondagurl, got the call from Jay Z after meeting one of his friends who passed her beat to the rap mogul. Ebony is credited as a producer in one of Jay Z's songs titled 'Crown' in the new album.

One Love actor, Tony Umole is dead

Tony Umole, a renowned actor, who was said to have been indisposed for sometime now, is dead. The news of his demise was made available to us yesterday night. His friends in the industry confirmed his death. A source also confirmed from a TV owner in Lagos, who is doing well with his sound in the city, and he was said to have confirmed the death of the actor.

Tony is popular for his role as "Daddy" in the popular weekly TV programme "One Love", he also featured in 2003 movie "Abuja Connection" alongside Eucharia Anumobi and late Enebeli Elebuwa. May his soul rest in peace.
