Former adviser to Ibrahim Babangida, Prof Omo Omoruyi dies in Benin

Professor Omo Omoruyi, a former Director-General of Centre for Democratic Studies and adviser to former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has died. The Professor of Political Science and former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin died on Sunday after battling prostate cancer for years.

He passed on in a hospital in Benin, a month after he returned from overseas where he had gone to receive medical treatment. Professor Omoruyi was 73.
May his soul RIP...amen.

11 year old Zuriel Oduwole appointed ambassador by Tanzanian first lady

Africa's child ambassador, eleven year old Zuriel Oduwole, the Nigerian girl making the global case for educating the continents Girl Child and in the process, re-branding Africa, has been appointed an ambassador by Tanzania's First Lady. Zuriel was in the country last week - which was her second county stop on her East African leg to launch the acclaimed Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up project aimed at inspiring/encouraging African girls.

On October 11th, Zuriel was in Dar Es Salaam to the attend the United Nations UNFPA event which focused on reducing the incidence of child marriage in Tanzania. After speaking at the event, she was formally invited to the office of the first lady Mrs Selma Kikwete (Zuriel pictured with the first lady above). Mrs Kikwete commended Zuriel for her leadership at such a young age, she also commended her for bringing issues of girl's education to several African leaders, then the first lady formally appointed Zuriel an ambassador for the largest foundation focused on gender issue - Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) of which she's the founding patron.

Zuriel was presented with an intricate 3 foot statue of unity, the same type presented to the US president, to symbolize the effect of Zuriel's in the lives of Africa's young women.

Wendy Williams blasts Tameka for posting shirtless photo of Usher

Tameka paid her ex a compliment and Wendy read too much meaning into it. So here's what happened. Nike Oshinowo's estranged hubby says twins story not true

Nike has a set of twins which she welcomed via a surrogate mum many weeks back...but a clueless Dr Tunde Soleye says the story is not true.

He told Encomium magazine...

"I don't believe it is true. The story is false. They are just trying to sell their papers, I guess. Nike might have a challenge but this is the last thing she can do. She doesn't have any twins through surrogacy". Dr Soleye maintained that the story is the figment of the imaginations of desperate tale bearers.

Governnor Fashola comes to the aid of ailing Pa Kasumu

Great news for ailing veteran actor, Kayode Odumosu popularly known as Pa Kasumu, who has been battling with serious liver and heart related ailments for a while now and in desperate need of N12m. According to a report by Encomium magazine, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has taken up his treatment after watching Pa Kasumu's interview on Channels TV last Friday October 11th.

A source told the magazine;

"It was after the governor saw Pa Kasumu on Channels TV on Friday evening that he texted that his case should be taken up immediate"

When asked the exact amount the governor was planning to donate to Pa Kasumu, the source said;

"It is not a specific amount at the moment. He will first be examined by medical experts who will do a proper evaluation of his health status and make recommendations as to the exact treatment he will receive. The fact at the moment is that everything he needs will be catered for by the state government"

Plane crash averted today as IRS aircraft makes emergency landing

Another plane crash was averted this afternoon when an IRS Aircraft made an emergency landing in Kaduna. A Fokker 28 plane, carrying 89 passengers from Lagos to Kaduna, developed hydraulic problems few minutes before landing at the Kaduna airport.

The aircraft's front tyres refused to come out during landing, forcing the pilot to land without them. Fortunately no one was injured.

The Managing Director of IRS, Yemi Dada, later explained what happened to reporters. He said:

"The pilots received a low hydraulic warning minutes before landing, and this affected the landing gear, nose wheel steering, brakes, cargo doors, thrust reverser and the flight controls."

“On final approach to Kaduna today on our flight 3390 with 89 passengers, our cockpit crew got a low hydraulic in system 1 warning and decided to take precautionary measures to ask for ground confirmation that all gears were down and locked."

“The crew proceeded to land but followed procedure to disembark on the runway and not taxi in accordance with the procedure.”

He said all passengers disembarked with the assistance of a crane before the aircraft was towed to ramp. He also said the airline's maintenance crew is checking the aircraft to see what happened.

The woman later cried and pleaded for assistance, she said she and her children had been living in a church, and barely had food to eat. Yvonne followed her to where her children were and after seeing their condition decided to help her. Dame Patience Jonathan honoured with doctorate degree in South Korea

Patience Jonathan on Thursday October 10th bagged her fourth Honorary Doctorate degree since becoming Nigeria's First Lady. She got her latest honorary degree from the Hansei University in South Korean (pictured above with the president and Chancellor of the university, Sung-Hae Kim)

The university said they honoured Mrs Jonathan because she had worked 'hard for many good causes'.

“She’s a humanitarian who has dedicated her life to working for the less privileged in Nigeria and Africa especially for women and children.
