Anti-gay bill: Dickson Iroegbu's Facebook message to Nigerian gays

Nollywood movie director, Dickson Iroegbu, who has faced gay allegations in the past, which he has vehemently denied, took to Facebook some days ago to express his thoughts on the anti-gay bill.

Photos: Chaos in Lasu as students disrupt exams, stone VC

There has been mayhem at the Lagos State University Campus, Ojo since yesterday after students of the institution and school authorities clashed over the closure of the university’s registration portal.

Students went on rampage this morning, destroying properties and disrupting exams schedule to hold today after their Vice Chancellor Prof. John Obafunwa refused to re-open the registration portal for 1292 students left to register for the current 2nd semester examinations which starts today because they couldn't raise the new N250,000 school fees on time.

Students gathered for over 9 hours in front of the senate building of the school yesterday 22nd of Jan. where the VC had a meeting concerning the re-opening of the portal but apparently the meeting didn't yield anything positive as the portal wasn't re-opened. According to the students, only 708 were able to register before the portal was shut again leaving 1292 students to their fate.

The VC reportedly said students yet to register are insignificant and would automatically have to carry the session over. This statement led to the riot today.

Video: Ejigbo 12 year old girl wants death penalty for perpetrators

This is according to Channels TV reports;

Nike, a 12 year old girl (pictured above) who was one of the three victims of suspected OPC members who tortured 3 pepper sellers in Ejigbo, Lagos state, for allegedly stealing pepper worth 50 naira, has advocated death penalty for the suspects for causing her step-sister’s death. Nike, who was the third and youngest of the victims, appeared at the public hearing ordered by the Lagos State House of Assembly to investigate the incident which occurred in February 2012. At the hearing, she identified three men as the ones who tortured herself and her step sister for stealing pepper worth 50 Naira.

Toke Makinwa will soon go into Nollywood

The On-Air-Personality and TV presenter will soon add actress to her resume as soon as she gets a good script. The newly wed video blogger revealed she has gotten a few offers from Nollywood but yet to take up any offer as she's waiting for the right story and script.

Doctors fear Michael Schumacher may remain in permanent vegetative state

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher has been in an artificially induced coma at the University Hospital in Grenoble since he fell and hit his head while skiing in French Alps on Sunday Dec. 29th.

Doctors say patients with such injuries are placed in artificially induced coma to help the brain heal but such measures normally last only a maximum of two weeks. Schumacher has been in his coma for nearly a month and doctors fear he could remain in a 'permanent vegetative state' even if he wakes from his coma. This means that if doctors do bring him out of his artificially induced coma he would be unable to speak, move or feed himself. Too sad!!

The more he stays in the medically induced coma, the more hope dwindle for a full recovery.

Jean-Marc Orgogozo, Professor of Neurology at the University of Bordeaux,said: 'Every day, every week in a coma the chances decline that the situation is improving. A persistent vegetative state is one in which patients with severe brain damage are in a state of partial arousal rather than true awareness. God please help this man. Miracles still happen...

20 out of 24 PDP Kwara State lawmakers defect to APC

20 out of the 24 lawmakers that make up the Kwara State House of Assembly have all defected to All Progressive Congress, APC. The lawmakers who came into the house on the platform of the PDP announced their defection this morning.

Principal officers of the house including the Speaker of the House Mr Rasaq Atunwa, his deputy, Prof Yisa Mohammed were part of those that defected. The lawmakers said they decided to move to the APC due to the factions in the PDP.

Kwara State governor Abdulfatah Ahmed already defected to APC.

Naked man holds girlfriend hostage after her parents refused to let them get married

A construction worker held his girlfriend hostage on a Chinese rooftop with a meat cleaver for five hours after her parents reportedly refused to approve their marriage.

Hundreds of onlookers and armed police watched as the man stripped to his underwear and ordered his girlfriend to do the same so she would be shamed in front of their neighbours.

He announced he was going to kill her and claimed the 29-year-old regularly had affairs when he went to work, according to various local media reports.

22 year old college athlete arrested for infecting dozens of men wih HIV

According to a report by Radar Online, 22year old college athlete, Michael Johnson (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly infecting dozens of men with the HIV virus. 32 tapes of the former wrestler having unprotected sex with men who are not aware of his HIV status were found on his computer. The men were not even aware that he was filming the sex act.

Michael has been charged with five counts of recklessly risking infection of another with HIV since November. Authorities said they have only identified one of the men in the tapes, and are trying to find out the identities of the others; many of the men seen having sex with Johnson might have met him through social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as on campus.

St. Charles County prosecutor Tim Lohmar told KMOV that “it’s safe to say that numerous of those videos were taken inside his dorm room; we know that because we recognize the furniture.”

Former PDP chairman Bamanga Tukur appointed Chairman Nigeria Railway Corporation

Immediate past chairman of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur has been appointed Chairman Board of the Nigerian Railway Corporation by President Jonathan.

His appointment was contained in a statement released by Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi.

Alhaji Bamaga last week resigned as chairman of PDP. He was replaced with the former Governor of Bauchi State, Adamu Muazu.

President Jonathan sends names of 12 ministerial nominees to Senate for clearance

President Jonathan today Tuesday Jan. 12th officially presented the names of 12 ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and approval. Senate president, David Mark, announced the names on the floor of the Senate at the resumed plenary session for the year 2014.

Lagos State Government seek to ban smoking in public places

The Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday January 20th passed a bill seeking to make smoking in public places illegal in the state, with first offenders having options of paying a fine of N10,000, three months in jail or both. The bill which is waiting the approval of Gov. Fashola to be signed into law prohibits residents from smoking in places such as libraries, museum, public toilets, schools, hospital, day-care centres, public transportation, restaurants among others.

Lagos residents who break this new law repeatedly would either be sent to prison for 6 months or pay a fine of N50,000, while owners of public places who encourage the breaking of this law would pay a fine of N100,000 or be sent to jail for six months.

The bill also seeks to punish anyone who smokes in front of a child with a fine of N15,000 or six months imprisonment. The bill also directs corporate organizations to place the 'No Smoking' sign in their premises. Companies who default would pay a fine of N250,000.
The Bill when passed into law would be supervised by the Lagos Environmental Protection Agency.
