ACP Frank Mba bows out as Police Public Relations Officer

ACP Frank Mba has bowed out as the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force. In a letter of appreciation he sent out this morning, Mr  Mba expressed his gratitude to the media and the Nigerian people for contributing to his successful tenure.

Mba, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Police Commissioner in June, has been redeployed to Lagos State Command as an Area Commander, Area J. He is expected to hand over to the new Public Relations officer, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu later today.

Sister of immediate past Chief Judge of Lagos state sworn in as new Chief Judge

History was made yesterday August 20th in Lagos state as Hon. Justice Oluwafunmilayo Olajumoke Atilade (pictured centre), the younger sister of the immediate past Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayotunde Philips (left) who retired in July, was sworn in as the new Chief Judge of Lagos state by Gov Babatunde Fashola at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Lagos state Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

This is the first time in the history of the state judiciary siblings will succeed each other as Chief Judge of the state.

Ebola: Lagos records five new suspected cases

The Lagos State government has announced that five new suspected cases of Ebola virus have been recorded at the Yaba Isolation Centre. The state Commissioner for health, Dr Jide Idris made this known yesterday while addressing journalists. Dr Idris said that two of the five new cases were from secondary contacts and that 213 people are now being observed

"Till date, we have recorded eight suspected cases, five of which came in yesterday August 19th, 12 confirmed. On the whole, five have died (including the index case). We are currently following up 213 contacts, and 62 have completed the two-day follow-up,” Dr Jide said

Dr. Idris used the opportunity to pay tribute to late Dr Ameyo Adadevoh and other health workers who have so far died from the Ebola virus disease.

Ebola: Fiancé of late nurse, Obi Ejelonu, admitted to hospital with suspected case

According to Sahara Reporters, the fiancé of Justina Obi Ejelonu, the nurse who died of the Ebola virus after being infected by Patrick Sawyer, is suspected to have contracted the Ebola virus from his late fiance.

The suspected patient, whose name was given simply as "Dennis", allegedly suffered from a high fever three days ago but said he had recovered, SR reports. He's since been admitted in the hospital. A new blood test has been ordered, with results expected soon.

Police said Jaycee and another man found in his home, Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko, 23, tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the drug.

US doctor with Ebola virus to be released from hospital today

Dr Kent Brantly, the American doctor who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia while working as a missionary in the country will be released from Atlanta's Emory University Hospital today August 21st after being successfully treated.

According to the spokesperson of the hospital, Vince Dollard, Dr. Kent's blood samples came back negative for the virus after undergoing proper screening for two days. Dr. Kent is expected to give a statement regarding his discharge later today at a news conference before leaving the hospital.
Dr. Kent and another US missionary Nancy Writebol contracted the disease while working to fight the outbreak in Liberia. After they contracted the disease they were taken to an isolation unit at Emory University Hospital, where they were treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp.

There’s a statue in Yaba, Lagos, of a man, whom many in Nigeria have forgotten. His family never have. And now, we all have a chance to remember him, and in a way, to honour him. He is the man on our one Naira coin.

Herbert Olayinka Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay, had a daughter, Sarah Idowu Abigail, who would get married and give birth to a son, Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh. Babatunde would grow up to become a doctor, and have kids of his own. One of these children, Stella Ameyo, became, like her father, a doctor.

She would go on to work at a hospital in Obalende, Lagos, First Consultant Hospital, not very far from where her famous ancestor was once imprisoned by the British.

Ebola fear: Cameroon closes all its borders with Nigeria

In a bid to stop the deadly Ebola virus from entering into their country, the Cameroonian government has closed all borders with Nigeria.

The border closure was made known yesterday by the spokesman of the Cameroonian government, Issa Tchimora Bakary

"All borders, land, sea, and air, between Cameroon and Nigeria are closed. Our thinking is that it is better to act preventively rather than have to heal those who may fall ill" he said

Cameroon has so far not recorded any case of Ebola...

Another Liberian reportedly certified with the Ebola Virus in Lagos

According to CKN who watched the program, a Senior Registrar with Igbobi Orthopaedic hospital, Lagos, Dr Akindele Akintayo revealed this morning on a TV programme that another Liberian have also been detected with the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria.

Dr. Akintayo said on the programme that the Liberian has been kept at the IDH in Lagos and could not confirm if the new case had a contact with late Mr Sawyer or not. More on this later...

The headquarters of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, at Wuse Zone 7 in Abuja is gutted by fire. According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from the Third floor of the building.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, said no one knows the cause of the fire but said men of the Nigerian Fire Service are battling to put it out

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh dies from Ebola virus

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer.

Dr. Ameyo died this yesterday Tuesday August 19th at the isolation unit of the Mainland Hospital in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the doctor who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, when he attempted to leave. She saved many lives by doing this. Her death is so heartbreaking.

She's survived by a son and her husband. May her beautiful soul rest in peace...Amen.

Nigerian graduate holds up sign advertising himself at train station and gets a job interview

22 year old Nigerian graduate Alfred Ajani has been inundated with offers of interviews after taking a radical approach to job hunting, Daily Mail reports.

Alfred said he's applied for over 300 positions since getting a degree in marketing in May this year and has been unlucky. Determined to land his dream job, he decided to hand out CVs to company bosses commuting into the City of London through Waterloo Station this morning.

Alfred stood at the entrance to the busy station holding a sign stating: 'Marketing graduate (BA Hons 2:1 Coventry Uni) Ask for CV.' His direct approach received a warm response from commuters, with many stopping to discuss potential positions.
