We were never served contravention notice on our building before it collapsed - Synagogue

The Synagogue Church this evening denied online reports that the collapsed 6-storey building was at one time sealed by the Lagos state government and a contravention notice served on the church. Below is a statement they posted on their Facebook page...
This is an official communication from The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations regarding some stories currently being reported in the media about the recent incident that happened in The SCOAN.
Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Vanguard Newspaper of 26th September 2014 titled, ‘Synagogue: We Sealed Off Building Before Collapse – LSBCA’.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, September 26, 2014 arraigned Dandeson Ebosele Ibhonitie, 26, (a.k.a Dandy James, Connor Mead and Barrister Louis Harpoch and Ohiwerei Charity, 31, before Justice E. F. Ikponmwen of Edo State High Court, Benin-City on a 3- count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
Ibhonitie and Charity allegedly belong to the group of fraudsters using the internet to defraud unsuspecting victims.

Thanduxolo Doro and Mpho Molebatsi, two South Africans who both lost their sisters at the Synagogue building collapse on September 12th have vowed to drag pastor T.B.Joshua to court for what they describe as negligence on the part of the church for not allowing rescue workers help save the victims after the collapse as well as withholding information after the unfortunate incident.

The South Africans who were guests on a BBC programme this week said they are calling on other family members to come forward so that they can unanimously press charges against T.B. Joshua
"I understand that some families are afraid to take on someone who purports to be God’s messenger and I don’t blame them but I will do this. It is not that the building collapsed, rather what was done after the collapse. We didn’t get any news from the church. When I contacted them they wouldn’t tell me anything. We saw reports that emergency workers were denied access initially, access that could have saved lives. The EFCC has declared one Chief Hope Rexlawson (pictured above) wanted for issuing two DUD cheques totaling N76million for the purchase of 46 vehicles. Find the EFCC press statement below
The public is hereby notified that Chief Hope Rexlawson, whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a case of Issuance of Dud Cheque.
RexLawson in his capacity as the National Coordinator of Rebuild Nigeria Initiative NGO, allegedly issued several EcoBank and Zenith Bank cheques to Goshen Motors Limited as payment for 46 Vehicles.
The cheques totalling N73, 600, 000.00 (Seventy Three Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira) were returned unpaid upon presentation at the Bank due to insufficient funds in the account.

Ekiti boils as hoodlums destroy APC office, Governor declares 7pm-7am curfew

A day after an Ayo Fayose loyalist was shot dead by unknown gunmen, hoodlums went on a rampage destroying the campaign office of the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, as well as the APC secretariat. The thugs also destroyed properties belonging to other politicians.

Today's chaos is believed to be an aftermath of the assassination of the former chairman of the Ekiti state NURTW, Mr Omalafe Aderiye.

Photo: Police arrest woman for burying her day old baby alive

A woman named Patience Aaron who lives in Afaha Abia village, Nsit Ibom LGA in Akwa Ibom state has been arrested by men of the Akwa Ibom state Police command for allegedly burying her day-old baby alive.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Gabriel Achong, Patience buried her one day old baby boy in a shallow grave with hopes that the child would die. Fortunately he was found and rescued alive seven hours later...
"Patience on September 14th 2014 did bury her one-day-old baby boy in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive" the commissioner said
He also said the woman has been seriously ill since she was arrested and was receiving treatment.

Boko Haram kills Pastor, Teacher, 18 others in Borno state

Pastor Eliud Gwamna Mshelizza of the Living Faith Church, a teacher with the Government Girls Secondary School Shaffa alongside 17 others were killed in separate attacks on Wednesday September 24th and Thursday September 25th after Boko Haram members launched an attack on Shaffa and Shindiffu villages of Hawul LGA in Borno State.

The sect men were said to have arrived Shaffa at about 8pm on Wednesday September 24th and after ravaging the village, proceeded to Shindiffu village on Thursday September 25th. They burnt down about 10 churches including E.Y.N No:I, E.Y.N No: II and III in both villages. Many of the sect members were however killed by Nigerian troops who came in from Adamawa and Biu during an ambush as the Boko Haram men were leaving the villages after the attack.

Pastor loses wife and four children in fire outbreak in Warri, Delta State

The Parish Pastor of the Christ Apotolic Church in Otumara in Warri Delta state, Pastor J.O. Kayoda, yesterday September 25th lost his wife and four children, two boys and two girls, in a fire outbreak at their home. According to reports, all five family members were burnt beyond recognition after an electric fault in the area caused a fire outbreak in the missionary building of the church where the pastor and his wife stayed. The Pastor was said to be away in Osun state to attend a Pastoral conference when the fire killed his entire family.

According to a neighbor, the fire started at about 11pm and rescue operation to save the woman and her children was very difficult due to the iron protectors the house had.

Chibok community doubts girl found is from Chibok, says she may be pregnant

The Force Public Relations officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, yesterday September 25th announced that a young girl found at the Mubi area of Borno state on Wednesday September 24th was one of the missing Chibok girls but the National Chairman of the Chibok Association, Dr Pogu Bitrus, is not so sure it's true.

Speaking with TheCable Nigeria, Dr Bitrus, said they are not sure the girl is from their community as her name is not on their list of the missing Chibok girls.

He said a preliminary medical examination conducted in a clinic showed the girl was pregnant but a definitive conclusion on her pregnancy status will be carried out in a proper hospital to confirm

A former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ekiti State and staunch supporter of Mr Ayo Fayose, Mr. Omolafe Aderiye was yesterday evening shot dead by four unknown gunmen at the Ijigbo area of Ado-Ekiti the state capital.

According to Sahara reporters, Mr Aderiye was accosted and shot at close range while on his way home after a meeting with the governor elect. Boko Haram sect abandon sick Chibok girl in the bush

 
A Chibok schoolgirl was found abandoned after health issues obviously forced the Boko Haram sect to drop her off at Kalaha, a remote village in Borno State.

The girl, who was discovered and identified by students in the village, gave her name as Susan Ishaya. She explained that she had been abandoned two days earlier, having been driven to the area in a Volkswagen Golf car.

Revealing this to the members of the #BringBackOurGirls Group yesterday, the chairman of Chibok community in Abuja, Tshalaba Hosea-Abana explained that a man identified as Rev Enoch had called to brief him on the situation of the abandoned girl.

EFCC arraigns six fishermen for fishing in unauthorized waters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday September 24th arraigned six fishermen Adekunle Oshingbosi; Momodu Ibrahim; Idowu Tuesday; Togbosi Christian; Benjamin Eyinle; Anthony Medoho,  and their company, Oshine Resources Ventures Limited before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly fishing in unauthorized waters.
According to the EFCC, the men were arrested on March 27th by officers of the Nigerian Navy for fishing in Nigerian territorial waters without getting authorized approval thereby violating Sections 1(1)(2) of the Seas Fishery Act Cap S4, 2004.

When the 2 count charge of conspiracy and stealing was read to the men, they pleaded not guilty and applied for bail through their counsel.
The presiding Judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba granted them bail in the sum of N10 million each with one surety in like sum each, who is to produce two recent passport photographs. They were remanded at the Ikoyi prisons pending when they meet their bail conditions.
