IGP orders investigation into alleged 'torture of couple' in Lagos State

The Inspector General of police has ordered investigations into the alleged torture of photographer, Ejeh Smith, and his wife, Grace. The couple claimed they were battered by a policeman along the Lekki Roundabout on Wednesday Dec. 3rd. (read here). Find the police press release below..
The attention of the Police High Command has been drawn to a viral media story alleging Police incivility to a couple in Ikoyi, Lagos. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter in line with his avowed commitment to protect and uphold the Human Rights of all Nigerians and residents therein.

Muhammadu Buhari wins APC Presidential Primary

Former Head of State Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly beaten former VP Atiku Abubakar, current Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, current governor of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, and the publisher of Leadership newspapers Sam Nda-Isaiah, to win the APC presidential Primary. So he will face president Jonathan at the 2015 presidential election to be held in February 2015.

According to Sahara Reporters, he got about 5,000 votes while Atiku got 954 votes.

1. Mr Chairman, our dear delegates, today is another great day in the history of our great Party; The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and indeed in the history of our great Nation.
2. Nothing gives me greater joy, as leader of our party, than such an opportunity as presented today, for direct interaction with so many enthusiastic and dedicated fellow party members, and may I add, all proudly dressed in our party colours and regalia.
3. It is also my pleasure to be here as a delegate today and I welcome whole heartedly all our delegates, party members and all Nigerians, from across the country and beyond; including those joining us by television and online, as we gather here in the Eagle Square, to reaffirm the noble democratic traditions and foundations, that bind us together.

'Ebola Fighters' are named as TIME's Person of the Year 2014

All the doctors, nurses and health workers who have worked tirelessly since the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus around the world have been named 2014 Time Person of the Year.

At an unveiling ceremony in the US yesterday, TIME's managing editor, Nancy Gibbs, said the men and women were chosen for their 'exceptionally great amount of courage, kindness and bravery' in battling the worst outbreak of Ebola in history.

Pres. Jonathan picks Namadi Sambo as his running mate for 2015 election

President Jonathan has picked VP Namadi Sambo as his running mate for next year's elections. The President made this known at the PDP Presidential Convention that held at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

President Jonathan who was ratified as the party's presidential candidate having won all 2,812 delegates votes at the convention, told party faithfuls in his acceptance speech that he had picked his "tested and loyal" Vice President as his running mate. Rumors were rift a few months ago of the possibility of Jonathan dropping VP Sambo and picking another person as his running mate.

Instagram officially overtakes Twitter with 300 million users

Instagram, which was created 4 years ago and later bought by Facebook in 2012 now has over 300 million users, officially overtaking Twitter which has 284million users as at 6 weeks ago.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom revealed yesterday that more 70 million photos and videos are shared by its members every day.

Nigerian military destroy Boko Haram armoured personnel carrier, kill militants

Troops in pursuit of terrorists had an encounter with a group of them at Muva Junction yesterday. The fierce encounter resulted in substantial casualties including loss of lives & equipment on both sides. An armoured Personnel Carrier used by the terrorists was destroyed in the fight, while General Purpose Machine Gun, Rocket Propelled Grenades, rifles,IEDs, & ammunitions as well as, bows, arrows, locally made pistols & guns captured from them have been taken into custody.

Court orders IG, SSS to confiscate Olusegun Obasanjo's new book

A High Court in Abuja today Wednesday December 10th ordered the Inspector General of Police, Director-General of State Security Services and Controller General of Nigeria Customs Services to confiscate Obasanjo`s book, 'My Watch' from public vendors, NAN reports.
Justice Valentine Ashi, gave the order after former President Olusegun Obasanjo allegedly went ahead to publish his book titled “ My Watch’’ in spite of a court order made on Dec. 5, restraining him from making the publication.
"I am of the view that the defendant having gone ahead to publish the book, he should therefore show cause within 21 days of the order served on him on why he should not be punished for contempt of court.

Update on Kano bomb blast: Six confirmed dead

At least 6 persons including two female suicide bombers have been confirmed dead after the attack at Filin Parking in Kantin Kwari Market in Kano this afternoon.

One female suicide bomber stationed herself at the car park of the market while another one entered a shop and blew herself up, killing everyone in the shop. Many were injured in the double blast.

The Kano state Comissioner of Police, Adenrele Shinaba, said the police has cordoned off the entire market to avoid another attack.

15 year old Nigerian student and footballer stabbed to death in the UK

15 year old Nigerian schoolboy and footballer, Joel Adeshina was stabbed to death at Bethnal Green Road in East London on Friday night December 5th by a group of boys.

According to Scotland Yard police, Joel was on his way home with some of his friends when they were attacked by a gang who pursued them into an estate, managed to corner Joel and then stabbed him in the stomach.

Nigerian woman allegedly murdered by hubby in Houston, Texas

A Nigerian woman named Anastacia Oaikhena Lambert (pictured left) was found dead in her home in Houston, Texas on Monday December 8th and Houston police are now looking for her estranged husband, Achilles Lambert, who has gone missing with the couple's 11 month old baby.

27 year old Anastacia was found stabbed to death and her body stuffed inside a refrigerator in the Houston apartment. The decomposing body was found by maintenance workers after a strong foul odor was perceived coming from the woman's home.

Ex-Miss America Mary Ann Mobley dies from breast cancer

One of the first Miss American winners to make it big in Hollywood, Mary Ann Mobley, has died. Mary Ann, who won the Miss America pageant in 1959, died yesterday Tuesday Dec. 9th in Beverly Hills after a long battle with breast cancer, TMZ reports. She was 75 years old.

The former beauty queen appeared in several Hollywood movies and sitcoms including 'Diff'rent Strokes. Her family says she will buried next week in her native Mississippi.
