Stop the unbecoming remarks directed at Oba Akiolu - OPC warns

The leadership of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, has released a statement warning Nigerians to stop the uncomplimentary comments being directed at the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, following his threats to Igbo residents in Lagos last Sunday.

According to OPC, the Yoruba traditional heritage must be respected by all and as a group, they will 'not tolerate anybody irrespective of their places of birth of conviction denigrate what their hosts (Yorubas) hold sacred'. Find the OPC statement after the cut...

President Barack Obama presents Jega with Certificate of Commendation

US president Barack Obama a few days ago presented a Certificate of Commendation to INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, over the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28th, which they said was free and fair, credible and the best election ever held in Nigeria.

The 'Certificate of Commendation' was presented to Jega on behalf of the US government by US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle. Entwistle said Jega's performance with the election was 'outstanding and worthy of emulation.'

White cop shoots unarmed black man five times in the back, handcuffs his lifeless body

Police officer Michael Slager, 33, opened fire on father-of-4 Walter Scott, 50, on Saturday morning April 4th after stopping him over a broken tail light. The police officer was arrested on Tuesday April 7th after the video was seen by police. He had initially claimed he shot Scott because he feared for his life, but the video shows Scott actually fleeing from him. The officer shot 8 times, three missed Scott, a US Coast Guard veteran. He has now been charged with murder. The video is quite shocking. Watch here and continue to read the story

"It is in your interest that you vote for APC" - Buhari appeals to Igbos in Lagos State

Following the uproar that arose from the recent anti-Igbo comments by the Oba of Lagos, President-elect, Gen. Buhari has appealed to Igbos in Lagos state to bury the hatchet and vote for APC in the April 11th governorship election in their own interest, saying they will benefit from his government if they do so. According to him, all tribes are well represented in Lagos state and there is no Northern Nigeria or Southern Nigeria, we have only One Nigeria. Gen Buhari said this while campaigning for APC Governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode in Lagos on Tuesday April 7th.

Soldiers, civilians killed as Boko Haram attacks New Marte in Borno State

Many soldiers and civilians are feared dead after Boko Haram members struck New Marte community in Borno state on Tuesday April 7th.

According to Sahara Reporters, a security officer revealed that the armed sect members arrived the community in cars and sports utility vehicles, attacked a military base in the community, and killed many soldiers and civilian.
"They attacked as a heavy group, shooting at both civilians and soldiers. Then one of their Golf cars laden with explosives sped and hit one of our APC [anti-personnel carrier] tanks. The collision caused a big explosion that killed many people and seriously injured many more. Our soldiers killed a number of them. They were so many of them, ‎so there was shooting from all angles. The multiple explosions led to the deaths of dozens of both civilians and soldiers nearby,” the source said.

Even if I am the last man standing, I will remain in PDP - David Mark says

Senate President David Mark says he will remain a member of PDP even if it means he is the only one standing. In a statement he released to mark his 67th birthday yesterday April 8th, the Senate President said all those who are currently defecting from the party are fair weather friends. 
"If I will be the last man standing, I will remain in PDP, defectors are fair weather friends,”the statement in part reads

Oba of Lagos not APC’s spokesman - Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has finally reacted to the anti-Igbo comments made by Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu. Tinubu said the Oba is not a member of APC and so can't speak on behalf of the party. Speaking to Punch at a rally in Iganmu yesterday, Tinubu said;
“The oba is not a politician. His job is to accommodate all political parties, whether PDP, APC or SDP. So, what did he (Ubah) go and do at the palace? To you Igbos, don’t we pay your children’s school fees like others? Or is it the palace that pays for it? When we conducted an exam and a spelling competition, an Igbo boy, Ebuka, from Anambra, came first and he became the governor for one day.

Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere has called on the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu to drop his crown and pursue politics following his recent anti-igbo comments. Spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin spoke to Vanguard about the position of the group;

I will drag Oba of Lagos to ICC - Josef Onoh son of former Anambra state governor says

Son of late former governor of old Anambra state Chief C.C Onoh and former member of the Enugu state House of state, Dr Josef Onoh has vowed to drag the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu before the International Criminal Court of Justice over the anti-Igbo comments he made during his meeting with some Igbo leaders resident in Lagos last Sunday.

Speaking with Vanguard, Dr Josef Onoh said
"Let it be known that whether Oba Akiolu’s threat comes to fruition or not, I have concluded to take him to the ICC where he will keep company with the like Charles Taylor and answer to human right charges that will be preferred against him” he said

Hackers hit ATMs in Lagos, device means to collect pins and ATM card data

ATMs located in highbrow areas in Lagos particularly in Victoria Island and Lekki, might have been compromised following reports of hackers planting fraud devices on some machines so as to get the pin codes and other details of the ATM cards of unsuspecting users and use them to carry out fraudulent activities.

A banker who spoke with Punch said "A number of the ATMs in Victoria Island and Lekki axis have been compromised by hackers. Some of these fraudsters visit those ATMs very late in the night or very early in the morning to fix some fraud devices on them, which are capable of collecting cardholders’ information, including their passwords. They come back later to remove those devices.
