Kim and Kanye met with the mayor of Jerusalem on their recent visit to Israel a few days ago to baptize North West, but when an Israeli newspaper wrote about the power couple's visit to the mayor, they made sure not to include her image in the photo. CBN cuts annual overseas spending from $150,000 per Nigerian debit card to $50,000

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cut the annual overseas spending by Nigerians using any Nigerian banks debit card from $150,000 to $50,000. It has also brought down the daily usage card limit to $300. According to the CBN, the move is being taken to reduce the pressure on the Naira.

In a circular signed and issued yesterday April 14th by the director, Trade and Exchange Department, Olakanmi Gbadamosi, the CBN said the new limit takes effect from Monday, April 13, 2015.

One year after, father of two missing Chibok girls narrates life without his girls

Reverend Enoch Mark pictured right, the father of two of the missing Chibok girls says the last 1 year has been like 10 years for him and his wife since two of their daughters, a biological daughter named Monica and an adopted daughter named Sarah, were kidnapped by Boko Haram on April 14th 2014.

Actor Tom Hank's wife Rita Wilson has breast cancer, removes her breasts

Tom Hanks' wife, actress Rita Wilson, 58, revealed yesterday in a statement released to People magazine, that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer & has undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

The mother of two said she underwent a breast biopsy that showed no sign of cancer but decided to seek a second opinion & was diagnosed with cancer this time. She underwent the double mastectomy last week. Below is what she said in the statement...
'Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma. I am recovering and most importantly, expected to make a full recovery. Why? Because I caught this early, have excellent doctors and because I got a second opinion.'

Buhari will reduce petrol to N40 per litre - Tam David-West says

Former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tam David-West, in a telephone conversation with Vanguard said Buhari will reduce the current fuel price which is N87 to about N40 per litre when he becomes president.
“I want to assure you that by the time he takes over, petrol will be dispensed at N40 per litre. This is possible and he has the credibility to make it work. The major assignment of the president-elect when he's eventually inaugurated is to restore confidence to the industry. As military head of state, he dealt with the Federal Executive Council with the tenets of democracy. Buhari will build new refineries to make petroleum products available for the masses. No responsible government will allow the masses to suffer. He will strengthen the refineries within a year. It is possible as we won’t spend any amount in setting up a green field refinery. We already have a blueprint as we shall use what we have to get what we want." He said

Alison-Madueke denies that 6 countries turned down her asylum request

Yesterday Sahara Reporters published a blockbuster report they got from Business Council for Africa (BCA) claiming that Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been denied asylum by six countries where she had so far applied. The report claims she's looking for a country to run to before Gen. Buhari takes over as president because she's scared she might be probed or jailed.

But reacting yesterday, Alison-Madueke, through the Group Public Affairs GM of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, said there's absolutely nothing of such happening. They might have been kidnapped for over a year but according to BBC Africa, a journalist who claims to have links to the Nigeria jihadist group, Boko Haram, says the abducted Chibok girls are alive and well.

Supreme Court upholds Ayo Fayose's election, dismisses APC's petition

The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state and dismissed the petition against him. At a ruling this morning April 13th, a 7-man panel led by Justice John Fabiyi dismissed all the grounds of appeal filed by the petitioner, APC members in the state House of Assembly, who argued that Governor Fayose was not eligible to contest following his impeachment from office during his first administration.

Delivering judgement, the court held that while impeachment was not a ground of disqualification ‎from contesting as governor, the panel which recommended Fayose for impeachment on October 16, 2006, was illegally and unconstitutionally constituted.

Ten Nigerians reportedly killed in xenophobic attacks in South Africa

Ten Nigerians are feared dead after angry South Africans launched a xenophobic attack on African migrants in Johannesburg on Friday April 10th. According to reports, 5 Gabonese, 10 Somalis and 5 Congolese students were also killed with some of their bodies set ablaze during the attack.

According to reports, the South Africans say their anger is that black migrants from other African countries are taking all the jobs available to young men in their country, leaving them, the citizens jobless, and slowly taking over their economy.

We do not have the power to cancel Rivers, Akwa Ibom results - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has come out to state that it has no constitutional power to cancel any results it has announced. While addressing calls by some parties for the cancellation of governorship and state house Assembly election results in some state, particularly in Rivers and Akwa Ibom, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Kayode Idowu, told Punch that the commission is not empowered by law to cancel any result it has announced, that cancellation of results is only done at election tribunals.
“The law does not allow us to cancel any result after it has been announced. Everyone knows this. It is only the election petition tribunals that can order that or even cancelled the elections. We would advice anyone who is aggrieved to go to the court. “he said
He advised all aggrieved party members to approach the election tribunals in their state to seek any redress they desire.

Remembering Chibok Girls - One year after they were kidnapped by Boko Haram

Today April 14th marks the one year anniversary since the abduction of Chibok Girls. On the night of April 14th, early Tuesday April 15th, over 200 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, by Boko Haram militants.

The kidnap sparked international condemnation and outrage which gave birth to the famous hashtag, #bringbackourgirls. But 365 days later, our girls haven't been found.

219 children have been selected by BBOG group to represent the girls that were kidnapped. They will lead a procession to the Ministry of Education in Abuja this morning.

Governor Fayose to know fate at Supreme Court today

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state will today know his fate as the Supreme court will be delivering judgement on the petition filed by the APC challenging his victory at the June 21 2014 governorship election. APC in its petition, had alleged that unlawful use of soldiers, intimidation of its supporters and compromised ballot papers were used to achieve his victory at last year's elections. The APC had lost in an earlier petition at the Ekiti state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on December 19, 2014 which upheld Governor Fayose’s victory. A dissatisfied APC approached the Supreme court for further hearing on the matter.
Meanwhile tension has reportedly gripped the state as both party supporters are awaiting the outcome of the supreme court judgement today.

INEC declares Abia state election inconclusive

I can't promise my government will find missing Chibok girls - Gen Buhari

President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari says his incoming government cannot promise the return of missing Chibok girls but that they would do everything within their power to secure their return. He said this in a statement he released today April 13th to commemorate one year of the girls' abduction. The statement below...
Today is a time to reflect on the pain and suffering of the victims, their friends and families. Our thoughts and prayers, and that of the whole Nigerian Nation, are with you today. I want to assure all of them, and particularly the parents, that when my new Administration takes office at the end of May, we will do everything we can to defeat Boko Haram. We will act differently from the Government we replace: we hear the anguish of our citizens and intend to respond accordingly.

INEC declares Taraba governorship election inconclusive, to hold a rerun

INEC has declared the Saturday April 11th governorship election in Taraba state inconclusive. The state Resident Electoral Officer, Mr Ahmed Makamma said the election results from Donga Local Government Area has been cancelled following high number of cancelled votes in the LGA. He said a rerun election will be conducted in that Local government..

He added that the PDP governorship candidate, Mt Darius Ishiaku is leading with 53, 000 votes while the only female governorship candidate in this election, Hajia Aisha Alhassan of the APC is coming second in the race going by the results collated so far.
