Pres. Jonathan, Sambo, Ministers, others to get N3.24bn severance pay

According to the Remuneration Package put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-president Namadi Sambo, non-returning Senators and House of Representatives members, ministers and  presidential aides will be paid a severance package of about N3.24bn as their stay in office terminates on May 29th this year.

According to Punch, President Jonathan  is entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary which is put at N3, 514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10, 544,115 after May 29. This however does not affect his constitutional benefits as a former President.

Buhari says he did not ask anyone to bar AIT from covering my activities

President-elect Gen. Buhari says he never gave the directive to anyone to bar AIT from covering his activities. In a statement released this yesterday and signed by the Director of Publicity for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, Gen Buhari said this is the era of change and that he along with his staff will ensure they do not make the same mistakes the outgoing government made.
"The time for change has come and we must avoid making the same mistakes that the outgoing government made" the statement read in part.
The statement also stated that Gen Buhari instructed his staff to"steer clear of all dealings with the media, and leave all media affairs to his official media team. "I would like everyone to henceforth stay within his/her defined area of responsibility,” Buhari said.

I was informed about a recent interview by Bode George in one of the national dailies and felt it necessary to clarify his claim that I begged him for forgiveness. I don’t know when and how I ever offended Mr.George. I have never wronged the man or even thought of it. I sought no forgiveness because no forgiveness was needed.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that all accredited media organizations in the country, including the African Independent Television (AIT), are free to cover the activities of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the incoming Buhari Administration will not discriminate against any media organization, irrespective of its role during the electioneering campaign leading up to the recent polls.

NNPC audit reveals double payment of subsidy on petrol and kerosene, spent N3.65trn without approval

The audit report by PricewaterHouse Coopers PWC on the financial management of the NNPC has revealed that there were many cases of duplicated subsidy payment by the NNPC to many oil marketers between 2012 and 2013.

According to the report, payment of subsidies for petrol (PMS) and kerosene (DPK) between January 2012 and July 2013 when investigated had a difference of $980 million (about N195 billion) due to duplicated payments.
“Our review of the subsidy documentation revealed that the subsidy due to NNPC between January 2012 and July 2013 on PMS and DPK import was $8.99billion compared to the $9.97 billion stated by the Reconciliation Committee.

Army spokesman says 200 girls rescued are not Chibok girls?

The army tweeted yesterday that they can't confirm if Chibok girls were among the 200 girls they rescued from Sambisa forest, that they will know after they screen and profile the rescued girls. But now Reuters, AP and Al-Jazeera are reporting that an Army Spokesperson has confirmed Chibok girls are not among the 293 girls and women rescued.

Army spokesman Col. Sani Usman told The Associated Press that troops destroyed and cleared four militant camps and rescued 200 abducted girls and 93 women "but they are not the Chibok girls." (Let's wait for official confirmation from Army Spokesperson, Olukolade)

South African President Jacob Zuma got an open letter from a Mozambican writer Mia Couto (left), one of the most prominent writers in Africa, who accused South Africa of Xenophobia. FG names major streets and roads in Abuja after Jonathan, Sambo, Atiku, El Rufai, others

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has revealed plans to rename some major streets and road in the FCT after some prominent Nigerians.

In a statement released yesterday April 27th by his spokesperson, Nosike Ogbuenyi, the ministersaid those to be honored with street names include President Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President, late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, former Speaker of House of Representatives and Katsina State Governor-elect, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapha, Business moguls, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote and several others.

"The fraud called Boko Haram can be defeated by denying it a recruitment base," General Buhari told visiting leaders of Nassarawa State who came to congratulate him on his emergence as President-elect. No religion allows for the killing of children in school dormitory, in markets and places of worship. They have nothing to do with religion. They are terrorists and we are going to deal with them as they deal with terrorists anywhere," he announced.

GEJ orders immediate release of report of forensic audit of NNPC accounts

We have noted with concern, the allegation by the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed that officials of the Federal Government are engaged in “last minute looting of the nation’s resources, rushed privatization of key institutions and hurried recruitment into the public service”.
We also consider as most unfortunate and uncharitable, the suggestion by Alhaji Mohammed that the Jonathan Administration is trying to “tie the hands” of the incoming government merely by continuing to discharge its constitutional responsibilities until the end of its tenure.
