President Buhari and VP Yemi Osinbajo take 50% pay cut

The presidency announced yesterday that President Buhari and VP Osinbajo have decided to take a pay cut. They will now only receive 50% of what Jonathan and Sambo received during their administration.

“I write to forward the completed IPPIS registration form of Mr. President and to draw your kind attention to Mr. President’s directive that only 50% of his salary be paid to him,” the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Nebolisa Emodi wrote to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation yesterday

Osinbajo also agreed to take a pay cut. Buhari will now receive 50% of his annual N14, 058,820.00.

Multiple deaths following gunman drive-by shooting in Germany

At least two people have been confirmed dead after an 18 year old gunman opened fire at passers-by from his car in Ansbach, southern Germany yesterday morning. The first victim was an elderly woman, and the second was a man on a bicycle. Another pedestrian and a driver of another vehicle were shot at by the gunman, but he missed. Police say they expect more casualties.

The gunman, who was firing from a silver Mercedes Benz, escaped after the shooting but police used helicopter to track him down at a petrol station in Ansbach at 11.45am. He has been arrested. More details later

President Buhari rejects N400m armoured cars

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down an offer by the Federal Government to buy 5 new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his use. The cars which cost is about N400m were planned to be purchased by the State House.

News cases of Ebola virus recorded in Liberia

Two new cases of Ebola virus disease have been recorded in Liberia. The new cases come two weeks after a 17 year old boy died from the deadly viral disease on June 28th. Liberia's deputy incident management system leader Francis Keteh confirmed the new cases and said this brings to five the number of Liberians that have contacted the very contagious disease. He added that 11 high risk cases and 42 low risk cases who had all come in contact with the 17-year-old while he was ill have been quarantined and are beeing closely monitored.
