Trade Union Congress backs out of NLC planned strike
Members of the Trade Union Congress TUC have backed out of today's planned strike action by the Ayuba Wabba led NLC. The TUC announced this after a joint meeting between Labor leaders and the Federal government yesterday night May 18th. Electricity workers, NUPENG and PENGASSAN have already signified they will not be participating in the proposed strike action.

Nigerian Senate withdraws anti-social media bill
The Senate has withdrawn the frivolous petition bill otherwise known as the Antisocial media bill sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah. At the plenary today May 17th, the senate received the Report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters that examined the legality of the bill.
During the deliberation of the committees report, Dino Melaye said the bill, if passed, will work against Whistleblowers who provide information to the police and other security agents.

National Industrial court stops Nigeria Labor Congress from embarking on strike tommorrow
The National Industrial Court has granted an interim order restraining the Nigeria Labor Congress and all its allies from going on any strike action. The Federal government this morning approached the court asking the court to stop the proposed strike action by NLC.

Petrol price hike: FG, Labor meeting ends in deadlock, to continue today
The meeting between the Federal government and organized labor over the planned strike against the recently increased pump price of petrol, ended in a deadlock yesterday night and will continue today May 17th.
At the meeting, Labor leaders insisted that the only way the planned strike action will be shelved is for the Federal government to review the minimum wage upwards, improve the palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel price hike on Nigerians and reconstitution of the board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).

The general manager of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Garba Deen, says increase in petroleum pump price is happening globally and not just in Nigeria. According to him, top oil producing country, United Arab Emirates, has removed its transportation fuel subsidy and plans to deregulate its oil sector with effect from August 1st.
He also said Saudi Arabia is planning to increase its petrol pump price. Deen said this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja yesterday May 16th.
