EgyptAir confirms missing flight crashed

An EgyptAir flight headed to Cairo from Paris late Wednesday which was reported as missing from radar has been confirmed to have crashed into the Mediterranean Sea halfway between Egypt and Greece, the airline reported on Twitter. Aboard were 56 passengers...including one child and two babies...from more than a dozen nations and 10 crew members, it said.

The airline confirmed that the pilot made a distress call at 2:24am local time before the plane vanished. A signal from a beacon was spotted and is currently been sought.

Autopsy attributes Ronke Shonde's death to respiratory seizure & head bruises

The autopsy report on late Ronke Shonde, the mother of two who was allegedly killed by her husband, Lekan, at their home in Egbeda area of Lagos, was released yesterday May 18th. According to Vanguard, the autopsy report which was signed by Dr. Shoyemi, a pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital LASUTH, attributed Ronke's death to head injuries and she also had water clustered in her head.

Minister of Labor, Ngige says partakers of illegal strike are liable to N100k fine or 6 months jail term

Rescued Chibok girl handed over to Borno State Governor to meet with Buhari (photos)

The rescued Chibok school girl, Amina Ali, was airlifted by Nigeria Air Force Super Puma aircraft from Damboa to Maiduguri alongside her baby and supposed husband, Mohammed Hayatu.
Prior to that they were examined at the Air Force medical facility and were found to be stable and normal blood pressure was observed. Thereafter, she was released to the Operation LAFIYA DOLE headquarters for further investigation and handing over.

EgyptAir plane from Paris to Cairo is reported missing

EgyptAir tweeted that a flight carrying 69 passengers and crew on a flight from Paris to Cairo went missing on Thursday, disappearing from radar over the Mediterranean Sea.
"An official source at EgyptAir said that Flight MS804, which departed Paris at 23:09 (CEST), heading to Cairo has disappeared from radar," the airline said on its official Twitter account. The aircraft was carrying 56 passengers including a toddler and 2 babies and 10 crew members.

NLC vows to ground flight operations at Lagos Airport from today

As the strike action of NLC enters day 2, members of the Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have threatened to ground flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, from today, Thursday May 19th.
This was made known by the Vice-president of the NLC, Solomon Adelegan, who is also the president of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUCPTRE).‎
“Today, few planes have taken-off and landed on this airport but by tomorrow, no plane will land or take off. It is operation occupy Lagos State,” he said.

'Ronke Shonde did not die from marks of violence' - Autopsy reveals

A preliminary autopsy report on late Ronke Shonde has said the victim was not killed by the marks of violence on her.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the result, which was still sketchy, showed that the cause of the death might be more complex than earlier thought.

Lekan, 51, allegedly beat his wife, Ronke, to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of the state last Thursday.He instead accused Ronke of sleeping with one Kayode, the general manager of a publishing company where she worked as the human resources manager.

Okupe confirms Jonathan paid Metuh N400m, said amount came from former president’s N21bn campaign funds

The former Senor Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe, told Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja on Wednesday that Jonathan confirmed to him that he gave the sum of N400 million to Chief Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP.

He said the amount was to enable Metuh carry out the much desired image and pulbic perception enhancement for the former President before his public declaration ahead of the 2015 general election.

PDP demands immediate release of all members held by EFCC

The Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have demanded the immediate release of all members of their party that are currently in EFCC detention. Rising from its National Executive Committee NEC meeting in Abuja yesterday May 17th, the leadership of the party decried the "selective probe" of PDP members by the anti-graft agency. According to the party, it is
"a case of witch-hunt and unnecessary oppression aimed at silencing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)". The party demanded that their members who have been arrested be released immediately or be charged to Court without further delay.

SSANU joins Nigeria Labour Congress strike

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU has joined in the nation-wide strike organized by the Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC. According to the Union, they are an affiliate of the NLC and have to abide by the directives of the union. ‎Their sister union, ASUU, has also joined in the strike action.

Nigerian Army confirms rescue of one of the missing Chibok girls, six of the girls reportedly dead

The Nigeria Army has released a statement confirming the rescue of one of the missing Chibok girls named Amina Ali Nkeki from Mbalala village in Borno state. The short statement released on the Army website and signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, reads
"This is to confirm that one of the abducted Chibok school girls, Falmata Mbalala, was among the rescued persons by our troops at Baale near Damboa."
Meanwhile, Activists and the Chairman of Chibok Community Abuja says the rescued girl informed them that six of her classmates were dead. See his tweets after the cut...

Sen. Shehu Sani slams those in support of fuel subsidy removal, says they have the constitutional rights to “revere their chains”

Senator Shehu Sani has slammed members of the Nigeria Labor Congress that opted out of the strike action by NLC against the ‎recent increase in petrol. In a statement released today May 18th, Sani cautioned against blackmailing labor members who are against their position on the removal of oil subsidy. Part of his statement reads;

Update: One of the missing Chibok Schoolgirls found

Activists and the Chairman of Chibok Community - Abuja, Tsambido Hosea Abana, have confirmed that one of the abducted Chibok girks named Amina Ali Nkek, was found by a vigilante group yesterday in Kulakaisa area, at the fringes of Sambisa Forest.

Amina who is from the town of Mbalala, south of Chibok, was identified by a civilian fighter belonging to the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), a vigilante group set up to help fight Boko Haram.
It was also reported that she was found with a baby.
