One police officer, eight Shi'ites killed in Kano clash (photos)

A police officer and 10 Shi'ite members have been confirmed dead in a clash between the security agents and the Islamic group members in Kano state yesterday. The Shi'ite members staged a religious march in the state yesterday morning. To stop their procession, the police teargassed the group. The situation became chaotic as the group members retaliated and attacked the police.

Confirming the number of casualties, the state's commissioner of police, Rabiu Yusuf, said;

Lagos businessman commits suicide in his office over debt, failed home

A Lagos businessman in his late 60s, James Oriri, was said to have allegedly committed suicide on Friday, in his office, at 393, Old Ojo Road, Satellite Town, Lagos.

Saturday Sun gathered that a large crowd besieged the four-story office complex, once the incident became public knowledge, to catch a glimpse of the man. Oriri, it was learnt was the Managing Director of Awore Consult, a firm that claims to be an expert in educational consultancy, for people seeking admission to universities, Secondary Schools in Ghana, and to Coventry universities in the UK.

Chicago man allegedly beats and stomps his girlfriend's 21 month old daughter to death

A 22-year-old Chicago man, Uriel Vega, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly beating and stomping a 21-month-old baby to death. A police statement states that Vega has been charged with one count of first-degree murder for the death of 21 month old Raiylana Vasquez.

Vega, who is Raiylana’s mother’s boyfriend, but not her father was looking after the child at the time of her death, according to police statement.
