Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku, has urged Christians in communities affected by religious crisis, to express their constitutional rights to self defense or face been wiped out by some of these extremists that have continued to wage war against them.

Speaking against the backdrop of the repeated attacks on Southern Kaduna and some other christian communities by some extremists in some parts of the North, Ishaku said Christians should not fold their hands and watch as they are wiped out by these extremists.

Olisa Metuh collapses in church yesterday as trial is stalled

The trial of Olisa Metuh, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party was on Tuesday stalled following his collapse at his Abuja church on Sunday. His lawyer, Mr Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), told a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday that Metuh is currently on admission at the National Hospital Abuja.

According to Ikpeazu, Metuh was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed during the Sunday service in his church in Abuja on Sunday.

Ikpeazu made this known to Justice Okon Abang, the trial judge while stating that the reasons for Metuh’s absence from the court, where he is being prosecuted along with his company, Destra Investment Limited, for offences relating to separate transactions of N400m and $2m was because he collapsed on Sunday.

The EFCC is prosecuting Metuh and Destra Investment Limited on a seven-count offence of fraud involving N400m which he allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014 without any justification.

Other counts involve alleged money laundering involving cash transaction with $2m, which was said to be above limit of cash payments allowed by law.

Ikpeazu said, “The first defendant is absent because he is sick. He was rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja on Sunday after he collapsed while trying to stand up from his seat to sing in his church.”

According to him, Metuh was later taken from the National Hospital to an Indian hospital in Karu, Abuja, and later back to the National Hospital, where he is receiving treatments until the Tuesday’s proceedings.

Ikpeazu also sought an adjournment of the trial till Wednesday to enable his client to obtain a medical report on his health condition.

In response, prosecuting counsel, Mr Sylvanus Tahir, said in the absence of a medical report disclosing Metuh’s health status, the court should disregard the submission of the defence lawyer and go ahead with the proceedings in the absence of the accused person.

Former President Jonathan, denies receiving kickbacks in $1.3bn Malabu oil deal

A Nigerian married couple welcomed quintuplets after ten years of childless marriage, at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, on Monday January 9th, the first ever in the history of the state.
Recounting the experience, father of the babies, Dr Edet said:

"God is never late. I have waited on for 10years for this children. We realised that God was going to bless us with something special when my wife had a scan after some months of the pregnancy. At that point, we knew she was carrying more than one baby in her womb."

'This is a full scale witch-hunt' - Russia hits back at America over election hacking allegations

 

Russia has hit back at the United States saying allegations by U.S Intelligence officials (Read here) that it influenced the U.S Presidential elections to favor Donald Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton are 'unfounded' and a 'full scale witch hunt' by the president Obama led U.S government.

The report, published by the Office of the Director of U.S Intelligence last week, accused Putin of directly influencing the elections by hacking Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta and leaking information obtained to Wikileaks.

President Buhari sacks official who approved the new law that led to Pastor Adeboye resigning as RCCG GO

 

President Buhari has sacked the head of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRCN, Jim Obazee pictured above, after the council enforced a law that led to the exit of Pastor E.A Adeboye as the General Overseer of RCCG in Nigeria on Saturday January 7th.

Pastor Adeboye during the church's Ministers thanksgiving, announced his retirement as the General Overseer of the church only in Nigeria following a new law that disallows leaders of a non-profit organization, churches inclusive, to remain in office for more than 20 years.

Asia's richest man, Jack Ma, the billionaire founder and executive chairman of the Alibaba Group met with Donald Trump on Monday to discuss plans for creating "one million" jobs in the U.S. through the company's e-commerce platform.

"Jack plans to share how Alibaba will create 1 million U.S. jobs by enabling 1 million small businesses to sell American goods to China and Asian consumers on the Alibaba platform," Brion Tingler, head of external affairs at Alibaba, said in a statement after the meeting.
