The eight-year-old son of Gambian President-elect Adama Barrow has died after being bitten by a dog on Sunday, January 15th.
Habibou Barrow, born in 2010, reportedly died on the way to the hospital in Manjai near Banjul. He was buried this afternoon. Mr Barrow is in the Senegalese capital Dakar ahead of his planned inauguration on Thursday. It is not clear if he returned for the funeral.

27 inmates killed in Brazilian prison riot
Twenty-seven inmates have been killed in a Brazilian Prison riot between members of a drug gang and their rivals, increasing the number of prison killings in the country this year to 140.
According to NY Times, the riot began around 5PM on Saturday Jan. 14th at the State Penitentiary of Alcaçuz, and continued until around 7am on Sunday, when riot police officers took control of the prison.
The police report confirmed that nine inmates were also injured in the riot and have been taken to hospitals near the Alcaçuz facility.
Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes, however, vowed to extend financial and security support for Rio Grande do Norte to prevent further prison uprisings.

Soldiers of 119 Task Force Battalion of 7 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation Lafiya Dole while on mop up and clearance patrol yesterday, discovered shallow graves used to bury Boko Haram members that escaped with gun shot wounds and died after an encounter on 13th January 2017.

A mob in Benin City, Edo state last week destroyed the Miracle House of God Prophetic Ministry allegedly run by a Pastor who was recently accused of committing adultery. He allegedly had an affair with a married woman who came to his church for prayers.

The bomb blast which took place this morning at a mosque at the University of Maidugri has claimed the lives of 5 people including a University professor of Veterinary medicine, while 20 have been injured. Exams scheduled to take place at the school has also been canceled. The bomb blast has been attributed to a Boko Haram attack. According Baba-Gana Ali, the bomb blast took place during fajr prayers (dawn prayers). He said another explosion took place at gate 5 of the school, which killed only the suicide bomber.
