Central Bank of Nigeria bars banks from virtual currency transactions

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has issued a statement barring banks in the country from doing any transaction using Bitcoin or any other kind of virtual currency. A virtual currency or virtual money is a type of unregulated, digital money, which is issued and usually controlled by its developers, and used and accepted among the members of a specific virtual community.

Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh's term extended by parliament

The Gambia's parliament has extended President Yahya Jammeh's term, which is due to end on tomorrow, following his defeat in elections, by 90 days.  It also approved his decision to declare a 90-day state of emergency in the tiny West African state.

Regional leaders have threatened to use military force to oust Mr Jammeh if he refuses to hand power to President-elect Adama Barrow on Thursday.

Former US President, George H.W. Bush hospitalized for shortness of breath

According to the Houston Chronicle and Houston TV station, former US president George H.W. Bush has been hospitalized. Bush's chief of staff, Jean Becker, says he was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital after falling ill but he's "doing fine."

Bush, who served a single-term as President from 1988 to 1992, was not expected to attend the inauguration of the 45th President, Donald J. Trump, in Washington on Friday due to health concerns.

According to Facebook user, Beks Asu who shared the photos, a staff of Total Plc, Port Harcourt, who has been married to his wife, Preye for 10 years and have 3 children inflicted the wounds above on her. He revealed that, the woman has been a victim of domestic violence more than a dozen times. He wrote;
"Fellow Nigerians , see how a staff of Total Nigeria in Port Harcourt brutalized his wife Preye, a staff of Federal Airport Authority also in Portharcourt. The 10 year old marriage is blessed with 3 kids and Preye has been a victim of domestic violence over a dozen times."

Pres. Buhari regrets accidental bombing, condoles with families of the dead

President Muhammadu Buhari has received with deep sadness and regret, the accidental bombing of a civilian community in Rann, Borno State, by the Nigerian Air Force, engaged in the final phase of mopping up insurgents in the North-east.

At least 120 people were wounded and 52 killed in the aerial bombing including ten humanitarian Aid workers with Red Cross and MSF International.

Boko Haram: Nigerian fighter jet accidentally kills over 50 civilians & humanitarian aid workers in Borno State

The Nigerian military on Tuesday said a fighter jet accidentally shot some civilians and humanitarian aid workers during an operation in Kala Balge, Borno State.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor, who disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday in Maiduguri, said soldiers got information of movement of Boko Haram members and deployed ground troops and air cover to tackle the terrorists.

Gambian president declares state of emergency

The political crisis in The Gambia took a different turn yesterday when the incumbent president, Yahya Jammeh, declared a state of emergency in the country.

According to a statement by the country's parliament, the state of emergency took effect from yesterday January 17th and will continue until April 17th this year. He is meant to hand over to his successor, Adama Barrow, tomorrow January 19th but it looks like he won't.
