I wish I was not in government - Senator Ben Murray-Bruce says

 
Ben Murray-Bruce says he wished he wasn't in government, saying being a Senator has exposed him to many facts and figures that are quite frustrating. Speaking to National Assembly correspondents in Abuja, Ben Murray-Bruce, who is the senate committee chairman on privatization expressed his frustrations at the failed privatization programme initiated by the Obasanjo-administration.

Whistle-blower exposes suspicious N8.4 billion in an unclaimed bank account

 
Detectives at EFCC and the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, are trying to find the owner of an account which has N8.4billion in it. The bank account has no signatories but a huge deposit made into the account has been traced to a bank which is believed to have assisted the money launderers, who own the account, to convert the cash to dollars.

Woman charged to court for chopping off the penis of her husband

 
A Kenyan woman in her mid-20s was on Monday, February 20, 2017 charged for chopping off the genital of her husband. The woman identified as Ms. Angel Mutuku committed the act on Thursday, February 16, 2017,  after she had a quarrel with her husband, Mr. Stephen Ochieng Oyuga for oversleeping.
'The complainant was sleeping at around 5:30am when his wife slapped him on the back and started accusing him of sleeping for too long,'  according to a police report.

Azerbaijan's President names his wife as country's First Vice President

Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliyev, 55, Today, appointed his wife Mehriban, 52, as the first Vice President of Azerbaijan, making her the person next in line in the nation's power hierarchy.

The position of First Vice President is a new one and was created just last September after a constitutional referendum in September. The referendum also extended the presidential term from five to seven years.

Muhammadu Sanusi clarifies proposed Islamic Family Law to deter men who are not financially incapable from polygamy

 
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll said the proposed Kano Islamic Family Law was not meant to stop Muslims from marrying up to four wives as prescribed by Islam.During the 50th anniversary of Ambassador Wali in Abuja last Sunday, the monarch said a committee he has set up is seeking to propose a law which will expect men to fulfill certain conditions before they can marry more wives.  The law will also address outlaw forced marriages, make domestic violence illegal, maintenance of of children and inheritance.

Economy: We don't need a loan from IMF- Says Kemi Adeosun

 
Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, says Nigeria does not need to take a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In an interview with CNBC yesterday, Adeosun said taking a loan from the international financial agency isn't a bad thing but that Nigeria is not open to explore such measures to revamp the ailing economy.

2-year-old Poppy Smith had hypoxic brain damage on the day she celebrated her second birthday at their home in Barrow-in- Furness, Cumbria, England and after that doctors said she had a very slim chance of survival.

Nigeria Customs Service donate seize bags of rice, cartons of Spaghetti, gallons of vegetable oil to IDP camps in Borno state (photos)

The Nigeria Customs Service today donated 36, 822 bags of rice, 7,752 Jerry cans of vegetable oil, 727 cartoons of vegetable oil, 3,003 cartoons of spaghetti and 59 bags of second hand shoes to IDP camps in Borno state. The items were handed over to the state governor, Kashim Shettima.

While receiving the items, Governor Shettima said the items donated are in good conditions with some of them having expiry dates of 2018, 2019.  See more photos after the cut..

At least eight people were arrested in Portland, Oregon, after a small group protesting President Donald Trump clashed with the police. The demonstrators, who did not have a permit, spilled out onto the streets outside the Federal Building and failed to heed the warnings of police in tactical gear.

The protest was just one of several held across the country as part of the 'not my Presidents' Day' rallies against Trump.
