World's second-largest diamond has been sold for $53 million

The world's second-largest diamond has finally found a buyer and the 1,109-carat uncut stone has now fetched $53 million in a private sale to luxury jeweler Graff Diamonds. The seller, Canada's Lucara, recovered the huge diamond from Botswana's Karowe mine nearly two years ago. It named it Lesedi La Rona, which means "Our Light" in Botswana's Tswana language.

Man arrested near White House for having 9 guns and 3 knives in his car

On Sunday morning, a man who was arrested near the White House was found to have nine guns and three knives in his car, according to a police report.

The man was initially stopped by law enforcement for allegedly urinating in public before Secret Service Uniform Division officers approached the man outside an art gallery in the area of 17th street and Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House.

North Korea's Foreign Minister accuse President Trump of declaring war on his country

North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho today, accused US President Donald Trump of declaring war on his country by tweeting over the weekend that North Korea "won't be around much longer." 

"Last weekend Trump claimed that our leadership wouldn't be around much longer and declared a war on our country," Ri said while speaking with reporters in New York.

Illegal importers of 661 pump-action rifles plead guilty

Two of the five men being prosecuted by the federal government for unlawful importation of 661 pump-action rifles into the country, have indicated their intention to enter into plea bargain. The defendants, Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo, Matthew Okoye, said to be at large, and Salihu Danjuma, had been arraigned by the Attorney General of the Federation on June 14th before the Federal High Court in Lagos. They had pleaded not guilty to eight charges against them, while the trial judge, Justice Ayokunle Faji, refused their bail applications in view of the ‘gravity of the charges’ leveled against them.

A 23-year-old pastor of a Pentecostal church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Kingsley Ihunda, was over the weekend arraigned before a chief magistrates’ court for allegedly biting an expectant mother on the waist and infecting her with HIV during a deliverance session in his church on July 27th. The victim who already has a child, had gone to the pastor for prayers after she had lost several pregnancies. She was referred to the pastor by a female herbalist, Treasure Victor, who told her that the pastor's prayers were very effective as she had taken some other women to him for prayers.

5,000 PDP members defect to APC in Delta state

Over 5,000 members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, have defected to All Progressives Congress, APC.

Olorogun Ovoke Oshasha, who led the defectors, said: “We are tired of PDP in Delta State; we are tired of being governed by people who cannot pay workers’ salaries, who cannot provide good health care, who cannot provide adequate security for lives and property and cannot complete meaningful projects that can change the economic activities of Ughelli North.
