Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, visited his home state, Rivers state, this weekend and had the opportunity to speak with some APC members in Eleleme kingdom in the state. While speaking to the party members, Amaechi who is in a running battle with the state governor, Nyesom Wike, said the only person who can insult him asides from his wife and mum and he would not insult him back out of respect is a former governor of the state, Peter Odili.
"The only man that can insult me, my wife, my mum and go free is Dr Peter Odili.. I have always respected him and will continue to respect him" he said

Nigerian Customs has seized 497,279 bags of rice in two years

Between 2015 and August 2017, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has seized 497,279 bags of imported rice with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3.8 billion.

The Comptroller-General of the service, Hameed Ali said that 90,073 bags of rice were seized in 2015 with DPV of N693 million while 280,109 bags of rice were impounded in 2016 with DPV of N2.156 billion. He added that between January and August 2017, no fewer than 127,097 bags of rice were seized with DPV of N978 million.

Five feared dead, many injured as Super Eagles defeat Zambia in Uyo

Five people were feared dead while scores sustained serious injuries on Saturday following a stampede at the entrance of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. The incident occurred while football enthusiasts tried to enter the stadium.

The fans, who were at the stadium to watch a match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopo of Zambia  were allegedly beaten  by soldiers at the gates of the stadium with heavy sticks.

Tiwa Savage mourns DJ Olu Abiodun

Tunisian Minister of Health dies after sporting event

Tunisian Minister of Health Slim Chaker has died. He died today after a heart attack, a medical source from the military hospital in Tunis said.

On Sunday morning, the Tunisian minister had participated in a sporting event in Nabeul, 60 km from Tunis, before losing consciousness suddenly.

Slim Chaker was appointed to his position in the reshuffle decided by the Head of Government and approved in mid-September 2017.

Three Islamic clerics arrested in possession of human parts in Ogun State

The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday paraded three self-acclaimed Islamic clerics who were arrested for possession of human parts, alleged rituals, and murder. The suspects are  Adebayo Mudashiru (36), Raheed Abass (33) and Rasaq Adenekan (42).

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, who paraded the suspects at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, headquarters in Abeokuta said they were arrested on October 5.

Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti shut down indefinitely after violent protest

On Sunday, the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti was shut indefinitely following the violent protest by students over the death of two of them that led to trouble on the institution’s campus late Friday when two of the students reportedly complained of malaria.

According to reports, they were said to have been rushed to the Polytechnic Health Centre for treatment, but their condition later became worse. They died in the early hours of Saturday.

Movie producer Harvey Weinstein fired from his own company after sexual harassment allegations

Harvey Weinstein has been fired from his own company, which he founded, amid allegations that he sexually harassed women for decades. The Board of Directors of The Weinstein Company issued a statement Saturday night in regards to the several rape accusations:
"In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company ... have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately."

The National Youth  Service  Corps (NYSC) has said at least 8, 000 corps members presently serving in Anambra will be available for the forthcoming governorship election in the state. 

Ebenezer Olawale, the NYSC Coordinator in the state on Sunday said the data of corps members in the state had been transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for planning ahead of the November 18, 2017  election.
