Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, is ready to unveil more statues in Owerri, the state capital. Last weekend, Okorocha hosted the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma and unveiled a statue in his honour.

However, an image that has emerged online, shows there are at least six more statues that have been erected alongside Zuma’s.

In the first week of October, a 30-feet monument was unveiled in honour of President Zuma in the North West region of his country. Gunmen have abducted Adetutu Adebanjo, a student of the Kogi State Polytechnic and are demanding N10 million ransom for her release.

According to a statement issued on Monday and signed by Mr Salihu Lukman, Director of The National Association of Kogi Students (NAKOSS) the HND 1 student was kidnapped last Friday at Itakpe junction, on Lokoja-Okene road on her way to Ogun State.

IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu absent in court as co-defendants are arraigned for treasonable offenses

The leader of the proscribed secessionist group IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was conspicuously absent at the Federal High Court in Abuja today October 17th. Kanu was supposed to appear in court for the resumed hearing of the felony charges leveled against him and three others by the Federal government.

His co-accused namely the National Coordinator of IPOB, Chidiebere Onwudiwe; an IPOB member, Benjamin Madubugwu; and a telecommunications expert, David Nwawuisi, are present in court.

Recall that Kanu has not been seen in public since the military operation at his home in Umuahia, Abia state on September 14th.

Following a tradition that started with George H. Bush, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery commissions an artist to create a portrait of the president and the first lady after their tenure. Obama’s predecessors have preferred to sit for 90-year old portrait artist Everett Raymond Kinstler, who has painted eight US presidents, but Obama chose to go with Kehinde. The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery made the announcement yesterday.
