Revealed: Why YABATECH graduate committed suicide

Barely two weeks to the commencement of his one year National Youth Service Scheme, a graduate of the Yaba College of Technology, Oluwamuyiwa Oluwagbemileke, aka Spartacus, has ended his life. (Read here) The 27-year-old graduate of electrical engineering reportedly took a poison on Wednesday after he was blamed for damaging a car in a sachet water factory in Ojodu Berger, Lagos, where he worked.

PUNCH Metro learnt that he had hit the vehicle on another one on the factory premises while trying to help the owner re-park it.

World-Famous Russian basejumper falls to his death on Mount Ama-Dablam, Nepal

A renowned Russian basejumper has been killed in a horror plunge after leaping 22,000ft (7,000m) from a Himalayan mountain. Valery Rozov, 52, fell to his death in a tragic wingsuit accident on Mount Ama-Dablam, eastern Nepal.

The extreme sportsman held the record for the highest ever basejump from an altitude of 25,200ft from Tibet's Mount Cho-Oyu last year.

He smashed into a cliff during his latest stunt and leaves behind a wife and sons.

Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, spends N208million to buy noodles, beverages, others to empower tea sellers in the state

Over the weekend, Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, carried out an empowerment programme for tea sellers otherwise known as Masu Shayi in the state. While delivering a speech at the empowerment programme held in the state capital, Governor Ganduje, told guests at the ceremony that his administration spent N208 million to buy Noodles, Tea, Kettles, Beverages, liquid and powdered milk, baskets, cups, nylon bags, spaghetti, and other materials needed by the 5,200 Masu Shayi (tea sellers) that were empowered.

One man killed, 5 others injured in shooting after a funeral in New Orleans

One man has been killed while five others were injured in a shooting at a funeral party, in the area of Forstall Street and Burgandy street, a New Orleans neighborhood. The police said a crowd of 300 people were in the 5200 block of Burgundy when several gunshots were fired.

New Orleans Police said the shooting took place around 8pm Saturday in an area where a large crowd gathered. Police said five males and a woman were found on the street and sidewalk with apparent gunshot wounds to the body. The five who were shot had injuries that were not life threatening.

SERAP calls for probe as it alleges Gov. Rochas Okorocha statues cost over N1billion

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) through its executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, has called on the Code of Conduct Bureau and the ICPC to liaise with the EFCC and look into the money the Imo state government spent on erecting statues in the state. The organisation alleges corrupt practices claiming the cost of the project is upwards of 1billion naira. The organization said

“Such investigation would help to improve public confidence in public authorities, and minimize the risks of bad government by public officials.”

Lagos state police arrest traffic robber on Anthony bridge

The Lagos state police command has arrested a traffic robber, Adewale Sadiq, on Anthony bridge after he robbed a lady of her Huawei phone. The victim was in a Toyota Prado Jeep when two men suddenly smashed the glass of her Jeep.

On receiving the report, the patrol team who were on ground took action and a chase ensued after which the suspects were caught with the stolen phone.
