US appears to back Zimbabwe military coup as top official says it wants a "new era"‬

The United states appears to have thrown its weight behind the military coup which brought Robert Mugabe's 37 year reign to an end. In an interview with Reuters, acting Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Donald Yamamoto said: "It's a transition to a new era for Zimbabwe, that's really what we're hoping for."

93-year old Mugabe has not resigned or been formally deposed but Yamamoto appeared to dismiss the idea of Mugabe remaining in a transitional or ceremonial role. Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with African Union officials at the State Department in Washington, he described the situation in Zimbabwe as "very fluid."

No fewer than four people are feared dead after a light aircraft and a helicopter crashed in mid-air over Buckinghamshire this afternoon.

Locals living near the historic Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire heard a loud bang shortly after midday and came out to see wreckage from both aircraft believed to have fallen from the sky. The Edo state police command yesterday paraded a 24-year-old man, Michael Duda, who kidnapped his teenage girlfriend and demanding a N2 million ransom from her parents. When he was arrested, a love-struck Michael, said he kidnapped his girlfriend so he can get some money from her parents to organize their wedding.

According to Michael who sells cups, his girlfriend had just finished secondary school and he knew that her parents would not give her hand out in marriage to him. He wanted to collect the money and elope with her. He had sex with her throughout the four days he held her captive.
