COSON Crisis: NCC needs to perform its statutory duty as the regulator - PMAN issues statement

PMAN has issued an official statement on the lingering crisis and legal battles going on at the Copyright Society Of Nigeria (COSON) saying NCC needs to perform its duty as a regulatory body.

PMAN also called out the current chairman of COSON, Tony Okoroji saying, 'he needs to desist from this recurring act of impunity that threw PMAN into crisis years back when he Tony Okoroji was then PMAN President ,  the Union is yet to recover fully from the crises Okoroji created decades ago at PMAN, and history will not judge him favourably for the intense damage done to PMAN' s image'.

On behalf of Nigerian youths, Twitter user comes for Buhari

In response to President Buhari's speech at the Commonwealth where he said  a lot of Nigerian youths haven’t been to school yet they want everything free, Twitter user @mrchidozie has just responded.

According to him, '60 percent of Nigerian youths or more are by far more educated than you yourself. Starting with your WAEC certificate as a point of reference'.

Amaju Pinnick, the President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has said that the Super Eagles stand the chance of pocketing $24 million if they play in the final of the 2018 World Cup. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Cup will hold from June 14 to July 15 in Russia.

Pinnick told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday at a parley that the money was part of the agreement reached with the players to share 50-50, whatever would accrue to the country if they get to the final and lift the trophy.

2 inmates of Kirikiri Prison enroll for doctorate degrees at the National Open University

Two inmates of Kirikiri Prison in Lagos in spite of their incarceration enrolled for doctorate degrees at the National Open University (NOUN). The two doctoral candidates were among the three inmates who were awarded masters degrees by NOUN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Adamu. 

Tunwashe Kabiru and Oladipupo Moshood enrolled for Doctorate Degrees in Business Administration and Peace and Conflict Resolution, respectively. Speaking at the ceremony, Comptroller General, Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Ja’afaru Ahmed, urged other inmates to make use of the opportunity provided by NOUN to further their education. 

Retired SARS boss shoots self dead in Ogun state

The family of a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, David Agholor, has been thrown into mourning after the ex-police officer shot himself dead at his residence on Sharaton Estate, Olaogun, in the Ijoko area of Ogun State.

Agholor, who was the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Enugu State Police Command, reportedly shot himself in the head.

Federal Government orders investigation into National Assembly invasion by thugs

The Federal Government has expressed shock at the invasion of the National Assembly and the subsequent snatching of the Senate mace by thugs on Wednesday

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the security agencies have been directed to immediately unravel the circumstances surrounding the breach of security that led to the invasion.

Offa robbery: Hotelier, others docked for conspiracy

The police yesterday arraigned the proprietor and some staff of a hotel where the suspected armed robbers that robbed banks and killed many people in Offa, Kwara state on April 5th, lodged.

The owner of the hotel was arraigned on a two-count charge before a magistrate’s court in Ilorin, the state capital, along with the accountant, a receptionist, a room keeper and a club house operator, as well as four lodgers.

Update: Stolen senate mace recovered, found under Abuja flyover bridge

The mace of the Nigerian senate that was stolen yesterday April 18th has been found under the flyover by the Abuja city gate. The police in a statement signed by the deputy force public relations officer force headquarters, Aremu Adeniran, said a patriotic Nigerian found the mace and alerted officers who retrieved it.

Yesterday, thugs allegedly sponsored by suspended senator Ovie Omo-Agege, stormed the senate and carted away the mace. Read the statement from the police explaining how it was recovered below.

Yemi Osinbajo meets Ike Ekweremadu over NASS invasion

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo this evening met with the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, over the chaos at the National Assembly earlier on Thursday where the mace was carted away by touts allegedly sponsored by suspended Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Speaking to state house correspondents after the meeting, Ekweremadu described Omo-Agege's action as a threat to democracy.

OAU suspends sex-for-mark lecturer indefinitely

Professor Richard Akindele, the Obafemi Awolowo University OAU lecturer who was recently caught in a recorded audio conversation asking one of his female students, Enitan, for sex in order to pass his course, has been suspended indefinitely. The audio conversation went viral last week.

A member of an investigative committee set up by the management of the school to look into the allegation, told Punch that the erring lecturer has appeared before the panel to state his own side but the female student who is a regular Masters student, failed to show up to testify before the panel.

Abducted twins of Oba Lekan Balogun freed after N10million ransom paid in Ibadan

The abducted twins  of Oba Lekan Balogun, Otun-Olubadan of Ibadanland were released today seven days after they were kidnapped. News Agency of Nigeria reports that the twins, abducted seven days ago were released in Lagos on Monday afternoon by the abductors after collecting a ransom of N10 million. 

The twins have since been moved to an undisclosed hospital for medical check-up. The  Balogun said the twins were released unhurt. He said that he has heard their voices, but he has not seen them.
