5 people dead and several others injured after rental van plows into pedestrians in Toronto

A white van has mowed down at least eight pedestrians in Canada. Police have confirmed there are 'multiple casualties' although the number is not yet clear after the van struck up to ten people on Yonge St. near Finch Ave, Toronto, at just before 1.30pm on Monday afternoon. 

The extent of the injuries isn't confirmed, and police are investigating whether the incident was an accident or intentional.

Monica Osagie, the student at the centre of a sex-for-mark scandal rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, would be facing the institution’s Investigative panel tomorrow.

According to the letter from the Office of the Secretary, Post-Graduate College of the institution dated 19th April, 2018, with Ref. No: ADP 15/16/H/1424, Miss Osagie, a Postgraduate student on the Master of Business Administration Regular programme was invited to the meeting slated for 10.00am.

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed at a Forward Operational Base in Benisheikh have uncovered a Boko Haram training camp where instructional training was provided to its foot soldiers.

Troops uncovered the Camp located in a hide out in Afa general area on Sunday morning at about 9.30 am, following a tip off that insurgents were being trained in the hideout.

2 South African women win Goldman prize for stopping a major nuclear deal

Two South African women who successfully challenged a secret, multibillion-dollar nuclear deal have won a major environmental prize. Makoma Lekalakala and Liz McDaid led a five-year court battle against South Africa's plans to build nuclear power plants with Russia. 

South Africa's former President Jacob Zuma had reached an agreement with Russia's leader Vladimir Putin in 2014. It was worth an estimated ($76bn) £54bn. The US and South Korea had signed co-deals, in 2009 and 2010 respectively, to be involved with the project, but last year a high court ruled the plan was unlawful and unconstitutional, agreeing with Ms Lekalakala and Ms McDaid's claims that it had been arranged without proper consultation with parliament.

A sickle cell patient, Aderinsola Adebola Elizabeth lost her life following power outage at Epe General Hospital where she was surviving on oxygen.
