Bird flu hits Lagos and Kaduna - according to Ministry of Agriculture

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced new cases of Avian Influenza otherwise known as Bird flu in Nigeria. Avian influenza is a type of viral disease affiliated to birds only and is an infectious disease.

In a statement released on January 15th, the ministry said that there has been an increasing number of deaths of poultry animals in two poultry farms and live bird markets in Lagos and Kano.

I don’t trust politicians, they are liars - Pastor Adeboye says

The GO of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye says politicians are liars and he doesn't trust them because they don't fulfill their promises. Pastor Adeboye said this while speaking at a prayer meeting at OAU, Ile Ife, Osun state yesterday January 16th.

"I don’t trust politicians. Politicians are liars. They don’t fulfill most of their promises. A politician can tell you that they will give all of you (students) chicken each, which we all know it is impossible.” he said

Pastor Adeboye advised Nigerians not to be worried about the forthcoming elections as God has already decided who will be President. “God has already planned who will be the President of Nigeria. "Pres. Jonathan can't fight corruption even if he's given 60 years to rule' - APC

The opposition party APC has responded to president Jonathan's plan to institute anti-corruption programmes is re-elected next month, saying that even if he's given 60 more years, he can't fight corruption, because 'a corrupt government can never fight corruption.'

The APC said this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

"Mr. President said he wants to put in place the institutions to tackle corruption before taking on the cankerworm that has almost destroyed the fabric of our society. Pray, whatever happened to the EFCC and the ICPC? Were they not institutions specifically created for the purpose of tackling corruption, but which the Jonathan administration chose to castrate? There is no better way to say this: Pres. Jonathan lacks the political will to tackle corruption, and he will not tackle it if he spends 60 years in office.”

T.B Joshua takes relatives of building collapse victims on shopping spree

According to a story that made the front cover of South African newspaper, Daily News, T.B Joshua took some relatives of the 85 South Africans killed in the collapse of his church building last year, on a shopping spree and showered them with cash.

The pastor invited relatives of about 44 victims to Nigeria and many of them accepted to come. T.B Joshua reportedly put them in nice hotels, took them shopping and gave every family member N50k each. He also took the families to the site of the collapse building where they lost their loved ones.

There were more surprises while we were preparing to sleep. The mamas who took us shopping knocked and presented us with N50 000 each and they said we must not use all our (own) shopping money. I just sang A huna ya tshwana le yena (there’s no one like him),” she said.

After all the hype around Lagos Countdown, the day is finally here. AirAsia jet found upside down at the bottom of the sea, passengers found holding hands

Indonesian search officials have now confirmed they have located the fuselage of AirAsia flight 8501 on sonar radar, upside down on the sea floor, not far from where three of the bodies from the doomed AirAsia flight were found holding hands when discovered floating in the Java Sea. Officials from Basarnas, Indonesia's search and rescue agency, say the plane wreckage has been located in 24 to 30 metres of water and one of the seven confirmed recovered bodies was wearing a life jacket.

Lieutenant Airman Tri Wobowo, who was co-piloting Indonesia's C130 Herclues aircraft, was the first to discover debris from the plane and witnessed the tragic scene.

'There were seven to eight people. Three of them held hands,' he told a local newspaper.

VP Sambo and General Buhari fail to present their certificates to INEC

Nigeria's Vice President and running mate of President Jonathan, Namadi Sambo and APC Presidential Candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, have both failed to present their University Degree certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission as part of documents to be tendered before the electoral commission by any aspirant

Arc. Namadi Sambo who presented his nomination forms to INEC on Dec 10th stated in his form that his BSc and MSc certificates from his Alma mater, Ahmadu Bello University ABU got burnt in a fire incident. He however tendered a "To Whom It May Concern" letter from authorities of the ABU stating that he was a student of their school.
