Pres. Buhari hands over to Osinbajo, writes National Assembly informing them of his medical trip to London

President Buhari has handed over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajoi. Osinbajo will serve in acting capacity for the 10 days President Buhari will be away in the UK for medical checkup.
President Buhari's letter to the senate was read on the floor of the house by the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, during plenary yesterday June 7th. This is the second time President Buhari is transferring power to Osinbajo since they both came into power in May 2015.

Doctors to begin nationwide strike tomorrow

Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has said that they will be going on a nationwide strike starting from Thursday June 9th. President of the association, Muhammad Askira, announced this yesterday June 7th. According to him, they are taking the painful decision of embarking on the strike action following the failure of the federal government to meet its demands of better working condition and better remuneration.

Federal government threatens to revoke licences of banks violating its ‘no sack’ order

Following the news of the retrenchment of 200 staff of Skye bank today, the federal government has released a statement threatening to sanction banks and telecommunication companies, that fail to comply with its order to suspend retrenchment. FG on June 4th, prevailed on Banks and Insurance companies to halt retrenchment exercises for now due to the hard economic realities.

MEND commends President Buhari for the clean-up exercise of Ogoniland, describs Jonathan as a colossal failure

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has released a statement commending President Buhari for flagging off the cleanup process of the oil polluted Ogoni land. In the statement made available to Sahara Reporters today June 7th, the militant group said successive governments including that of an indigene of the area, Goodluck Jonathan, failed to carry out the cleanup of the region as recommended in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Members of the PDP National Caretaker Committee today took over the leadership of the party as they replaced the National Working Committee of the party. Hillary Clinton secures Democratic nomination after delegates count

Hillary Clinton is the presumptive Democratic Party Presidential candidate according to reports by the Associated Press who put together a tally of Democratic Party delegates who voted for Clinton last night. The count puts Mrs Clinton on 2,383 - the number needed to make her the presumptive nominee which makes her the first female nominee for a major US political party.

Pres. Buhari orders suspension of military action in Niger Delta for 2 weeks

In a bid to quell the unrest in the Niger Delta region by militants in recent times, President Buhari has ordered the military to suspend operations in the region for two weeks to create room for dialogue with militants. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, disclosed this at the handover ceremony of Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas to the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, yesterday June 6th.

Skye Bank sacks 200 staff


Skye bank yesterday June 6th, laid off 200 of its staff, disregarding the Federal government directive to all banks to halt all retrenchment exercise. According to the management of the bank, the sacking of 200 of its workers was because the affected staff failed in their 2015 appraisal.

The affected workers got to work yesterday only to be handed their termination of appointment letters and severance packages.
Last week, Ecobank fired 1040 of its staff while Diamond bank sacked 200 members of its staff.

Abidemi Kosoko pays a tribute to her late mum, Henrietta Kosoko

Actress Henrietta Kosoko passed away yesterday morning after a long battle with diabetes. Henrietta, who celebrated her birthday only last week, slumped at her home and was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her daughter Abidemi, shared this touching tribute to her via Instagram today. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
