300 level Law student of UNIBEN dies in fatal car crash with her parents

A 300 level student of the Department of Law at the University of Benin UNIBEN, Elizabeth Omanjie and her parents were killed in a fatal car accident yesterday October 1st. Her death was announced on facebook by the school's SUG Public relations officer, Ehiabhi Goodnews.

Major protest in Benin after police kill and bury UNIBEN student

Students of the University of Benin yesterday Wednesday June 5th marched round the streets of Benin, protesting the death of one of their own, a final student named Ibrahim Momodu, who was allegedly killed and hurriedly buried by men of the Ogida police station, in Benin.

According to reports, Ibrahim Momodu (pictured above) was allegedly killed on May 27th by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, Carol Afebgai (pictured above, right).

According to the deceased elder sister, Rebecca Egbe, Ibrahim was shot dead and buried the next day without the family even knowing he was dead.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Eguavoen later told newsmen that Momodu was an armed robber, saying that a gun, bullets, two mobile phones and a bag was found on him. The family deny this. They say Momodu was not an armed robber and are asking for justice for their son.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has promised to set up an enquiry into the incident. Watch a Channels TV report on the controversial killing after the cut...

Update: 22 year old UNIBEN undergraduate killed his mother and ripped her womb open because she refused to give him money

Two days ago, we posted the sad story of a young man named Caleb Obasogie, who killed his mother, Josephine Igbineweka, in Benin city, Edo state. Read here.

According to new reports, Caleb, who is a 22-year final year student of the University of Benin, smashed his 55-year-old mother's head and ripped her womb opened with a broken bottle because she refused to give him money. Caleb is the last child of his mother.

UNIBEN professor shot dead in front of his home in Benin city

A senior lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Benin in Edo State, Prof. Paul Otasowie, was shot dead by gunmen in front of his home on Ekehuan road in Oredo Local Government Area of the state yesterday evening October 4th. There have been different claims as to the men who killed the professor. While some people claim that the gunmen were hired assassins, others claim that the armed men might have been armed robbers who were shocked to see him in front of his home.
The University's Public Relations Officer, Michael Osasuyi, says the matter has been reported to the police and that the school would issue a statement soon.

DPO denies firing shot that killed UNIBEN student

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, CSP Carol Afegbai, has denied firing the shot that killed alleged final year student of University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu, on May 27th during a stop and search in Benin. (If you missed the story, read it HERE)

According to the Edo State Police PRO, a Russian made double barrel gun with eight rounds of cartridges, two loaded in the gun, were found on Ibrahim (pictured above). Ibrahim's family and friends are protesting his death, denying claims he was an armed robber. Ibrahim was shot on the 27th of May and buried the next day by the police without his family being informed.

According to CSP's Carol's husband, her orderly PC Amadi Idahosa shot and killed Ibrahim when the deceased allegedly tried to reach into his bag to pull out his weapon and harm the corporal who was conducting the stop and search along Siloku road by Obayuwana junction, Benin that Monday night.

The Governor of Edo State, Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the Inspector General of Police, have ordered probe into the case to unravel the real circumstances that led to the killing.
