The Senate has withdrawn the frivolous petition bill otherwise known as the Antisocial media bill sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah. At the plenary today May 17th, the senate received the Report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters that examined the legality of the bill.

During the deliberation of the committees report, Dino Melaye said the bill, if passed, will work against Whistleblowers who provide information to the police and other security agents.

The National Industrial Court has granted an interim order restraining the Nigeria Labor Congress and all its allies from going on any strike action. The Federal government this morning approached the court asking the court to stop the proposed strike action by NLC.

NLC had given the federal government till midnight today May 17th to revert to the old pump price or face total strike action slated for tomorrow Wednesday May 18th.

The National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, has released a statement debunking the rumor making the rounds that it has postponed the Friday May 20th commencement for the Batch "A" stream II orientation due to lack of funds. The meeting between the Federal government and organized labor over the planned strike against the recently increased pump price of petrol, ended in a deadlock yesterday night and will continue today May 17th.

At the meeting, Labor leaders insisted that the only way the planned strike action will be shelved is for the Federal government to review the minimum wage upwards, improve the palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel price hike on Nigerians and reconstitution of the board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).‎

NYSC boss says no money to mobilize Batch A stream 2 Corp members

The Director General of the National Youth Service Co‎rp NYSC Brig.-Gen. Sulyman Kazaure says the commission is presently at a loss as they have no funds to mobilize thousands of prospective corps members in the Batch A Stream 2 to camp this Friday‎ May 20th.

Kazaure said this while speaking with members of the Senate Committee on Sports in Abuja yesterday May 16th.

Controversial Nigerian oil tycoon, Kola Aluko has sold his Bel-Air, Los Angeles mansion, as Nigerian and European authorities investigate him for alleged series of money-laundering and fraud-related crimes, Forbes reports, quoting The Los Angeles Times.

The 46-year-old sold the home last week for $21.5 million, taking a $3 million loss after purchasing the sprawling residence in 2012 for $24.5 million. Aluko apparently sold the mansion in an off-market transaction using a limited-liability company.

'Lagos now officially an oil producing state' - Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday declared that Lagos has officially joined the League of Oil Producing States in Nigeria following the discovery of crude oil by Tunde Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited in Badagry, Lagos.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, was this afternoon questioned by members of the House of Representatives on the increase in petroleum pump price which he announced last week. Kachikwu said if the fuel price is not increased, fuel queues will return, there will be no money in the federation account allocation committee and there will be social disruption. He also said Nigerian refineries are obsolete and require maintenance..

Senator Dino Melaye maintains he will still lead a protest if the Federal government does not revert to the old pump price of N86.50 within seven days. Speaking as a guest on Channels TV yesterday night May 15th, Dino maintained that he will still be leading the protest but also said that he will open a register where Nigerians will express their displeasure over the increase in petrol price.

"I will go on the street if there is no reversal of the price. We will open a register after the seven days ultimatum and ask Nigerians to come and register and show their displeasure and after that we will go and present the signatures of Nigerians in the register to Mr President".

FG and labor leaders to meet today over planned strike action against fuel price hike

The Federal government, leaders of the Nigeria Labor Congress NLC ‎and Trade Union allies will be meeting today May 16th to discuss on the planned strike action by the Labor congress. The labor leaders on Saturday May 14th gave FG till midnight of Tuesday May 17th to revert to the old pump price of petrol of N86.50 or face a total strike that may begin on Wednesday May 18th.
