8-year-old son of Gambian President-elect Barrow dies after he was bitten by dog

The eight-year-old son of Gambian President-elect Adama Barrow has died after being bitten by a dog on Sunday, January 15th.

Habibou Barrow, born in 2010, reportedly died on the way to the hospital in Manjai near Banjul. He was buried this afternoon. Mr Barrow is in the Senegalese capital Dakar ahead of his planned inauguration on Thursday. It is not clear if he returned for the funeral.

Charles Manigo has revealed his shock and heartbreak after finding out that the 18 year old girl he raised from childbirth as his own daughter wasn't his, but was actually kidnapped at childbirth by his former partner, Gloria Williams in 1998.

7 year old boy identified as one of the suicide bombers that attacked University of Maiduguri mosque

The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, on Monday said a 7-year-old boy was one of the suicide bombers that attacked University of Maiduguri mosque in the early hours of today (read here).

"At about 5:45 a.m. a mobile police officer who is on duty sighted a suicide bomber who was trying to scale the fence at Gate Five of the university.

Twenty-seven inmates have been killed in a Brazilian Prison riot between members of a drug gang and their rivals, increasing the number of prison killings in the country this year to 140.

According to NY Times, the riot began around 5PM on Saturday Jan. 14th at the State Penitentiary of Alcaçuz, and continued until around 7am on Sunday, when riot police officers took control of the prison.
The police report confirmed that nine inmates were also injured in the riot and have been taken to hospitals near the Alcaçuz facility.
Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes, however, vowed to extend financial and security support for Rio Grande do Norte to prevent further prison uprisings.

Soldiers of 119 Task Force Battalion of 7 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation Lafiya Dole while on mop up and clearance patrol yesterday, discovered shallow graves used to bury Boko Haram members that escaped with gun shot wounds and died after an encounter on 13th January 2017.

The President of Tanzania, John Magufuli on Friday issued out a strict warning to Newspaper organisations over critical articles written against his government. This comes after two privately-owned newspapers published articles criticising Magufuli's handling of the economy and some governance issues in the country.

Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Group BBOG, Oby Ezekwesili, Aisha Yesufu and other members of the advocacy group for the missing Chibok Girls, are presently at the airport awaiting the Federal government delegation for the guided tour of the North East. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, over the weekend, wrote to the group asking them to get prepared for a guided tour with the military today Monday January 16th.

The bomb blast which took place this morning at a mosque at the University of Maidugri has claimed the lives of 5 people including a University professor of Veterinary medicine, while 20 have been injured. Exams scheduled to take place at the school has also been canceled. The bomb blast has been attributed to a Boko Haram attack. According Baba-Gana Ali, the bomb blast took place during fajr prayers (dawn prayers). He said another explosion took place at gate 5 of the school, which killed only the suicide bomber. On Saturday, January 14th, a young man identified as Richard Obialiki broke into the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) zonal office in Ujevwu. He damaged the gate, keys, protectors and other items in the office and made his way into the office. According to TMZ, the two men say they signed Blac Chyna back in June 2007 to a 10-year contract which made them her managers.

There was a bomb explosion in a mosque at the University of Maiduguri Borno this morning while students and staff of the university were observing prayer at 6:30 am. According to Sahara reporters, eyewitnesses said that an explosion rocked the university early this morning and that security forces have been mobilized to the scene of the incident.
