There’s a statue in Yaba, Lagos, of a man, whom many in Nigeria have forgotten. His family never have. And now, we all have a chance to remember him, and in a way, to honour him. He is the man on our one Naira coin.

Herbert Olayinka Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay, had a daughter, Sarah Idowu Abigail, who would get married and give birth to a son, Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh. Babatunde would grow up to become a doctor, and have kids of his own. One of these children, Stella Ameyo, became, like her father, a doctor.

She would go on to work at a hospital in Obalende, Lagos, First Consultant Hospital, not very far from where her famous ancestor was once imprisoned by the British.

Ebola fear: Cameroon closes all its borders with Nigeria

In a bid to stop the deadly Ebola virus from entering into their country, the Cameroonian government has closed all borders with Nigeria.

The border closure was made known yesterday by the spokesman of the Cameroonian government, Issa Tchimora Bakary

"All borders, land, sea, and air, between Cameroon and Nigeria are closed. Our thinking is that it is better to act preventively rather than have to heal those who may fall ill" he said

Cameroon has so far not recorded any case of Ebola...

Another Liberian reportedly certified with the Ebola Virus in Lagos

According to CKN who watched the program, a Senior Registrar with Igbobi Orthopaedic hospital, Lagos, Dr Akindele Akintayo revealed this morning on a TV programme that another Liberian have also been detected with the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria.

Dr. Akintayo said on the programme that the Liberian has been kept at the IDH in Lagos and could not confirm if the new case had a contact with late Mr Sawyer or not. More on this later...

The headquarters of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, at Wuse Zone 7 in Abuja is gutted by fire. According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from the Third floor of the building.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, said no one knows the cause of the fire but said men of the Nigerian Fire Service are battling to put it out

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh dies from Ebola virus

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer.

Dr. Ameyo died this yesterday Tuesday August 19th at the isolation unit of the Mainland Hospital in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the doctor who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, when he attempted to leave. She saved many lives by doing this. Her death is so heartbreaking.

She's survived by a son and her husband. May her beautiful soul rest in peace...Amen.

Nigerian graduate holds up sign advertising himself at train station and gets a job interview

22 year old Nigerian graduate Alfred Ajani has been inundated with offers of interviews after taking a radical approach to job hunting, Daily Mail reports.

Alfred said he's applied for over 300 positions since getting a degree in marketing in May this year and has been unlucky. Determined to land his dream job, he decided to hand out CVs to company bosses commuting into the City of London through Waterloo Station this morning.

Alfred stood at the entrance to the busy station holding a sign stating: 'Marketing graduate (BA Hons 2:1 Coventry Uni) Ask for CV.' His direct approach received a warm response from commuters, with many stopping to discuss potential positions.

Ebola: 17 patients who fled from isolation centre in Liberia found

The 17 patients who escaped from the Ebola Isolation Centre in Liberia after some youths attacked the center on Saturday August 16th, have thankfully been found. The development was made known by a Liberian Minister this afternoon.

The isolation ward was attacked by armed men wielding sticks and shouting - 'There is no Ebola'

Missing supermodel Ataui Deng found alive in a hospital in New York

22 year old New York based Sudanese top model Ataui Deng has been found 12 days after she went missing. Deng, who is the niece of Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek, went missing on August 6th after leaving a party at the Attic Lounge on West 48th Street in New York with her boyfriend.

Her boyfriend, actor and PR worker, Grant Monohon said after they returned from the party, Deng started acting 'irregular', said she just wanted to get away, and left her phone and everything in the home they shared. He didn't report her missing until eight days later.

After she was reported missing, her friends and fellow models including Rihanna, Jourdan Dunn, and Candice Swanepoel spread the word of her disappearance and got thousands of people involved in the search for the model.

She finally turned up last night at a hospital in New York, but the hospital hasn't said whether Deng is unwell or injured.

Bride set ablaze and killed by groom after she slept with ex-lover on wedding night

A bride was doused with alcohol and set on fire by her new husband after she slept with an ex-lover on her wedding night, police say.

Mother-of-one Veronika Filippova had sought out her former partner after her new spouse fell asleep drunk at their wedding reception. The 27-year-old had 80% burns on her body and died despite frantic efforts by doctors to save her.

Grace, who has never revealed the father of her 3 year old son, says as long as she and her baby daddy are taking care of their son, she's not a single parent. Pope Francis has suggested that he might one day resign the papacy like his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI did last year, which would make him the second consecutive Pope to do so after almost 600 years. He said this yesterday Aug. 18th while speaking with reporters on his way back to Rome after his state visit to South Korea.

"Some theologians may say this is not right, but I think this way. Let us think about what [Benedict XVI] said, "I have gotten old, I do not have the strength", it was a beautiful gesture of nobility, of humility and courage. But you could say to me, if you at some time felt you could not go forward, I would do the same."

Asked about his immense popularity, the Pope, 77, joked that he would probably die in the next 2/3 years so should not get too proud:

Medical doctors, students, consultants converged at the Lagos University Teaching hospital, (LUTH), Idi Araba, today to protest the recent sack of 16,000 resident doctors by the Federal Government. The protest was led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Tope Ojo.

Four more Ebola patients discharged – Health Minister

Four more patients have been certified clean and discharged from the Ebola Isolation center in Lagos after undergoing treatment for the deadly disease. The four patients include two male doctors, the nurse who had earlier escaped from the isolation center and ran to Enugu and a female patient who was on admission at the time Patrick Sawyer was hospitalized at the First Consultant Hospital.

The news of their discharge was disclosed in a statement released today by the Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu and signed by his his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Mr. Dan Nwomeh. Read parts of the statement after the cut...
