Pastor Oritsejafor drags Gov. Fashola to court over plans to demolish his Lagos church

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has instituted a law suit against Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola over the state government's plan to demolish the Lagos branch of his church, Word of Life Bible Church, situated on Plot 21E, Abdulrahman Okene Close, off Ligali Ayorinde Street Victoria Island Annex.

Dino Melaye wins Senatorial ticket

Civil rights activist and former member of the House of Representatives, Otunba Dino Melaye has won the All Progressives Congress’ Kogi West Senatorial District ticket for the 2015 general elections. Dino scored 2,077 votes to defeat his rival, Bidemi Adeyemi who scored 326 votes in the primaries which took place yesterday in Kabba. He will be slugging it out with PDP’s Smart Adeyemi come 2015.

Ribadu, Nyesom Wike, others win PDP Governorship tickets

The Governorship primaries of the PDP held today across the nation. Some results are out! Former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu clinched the PDP ticket for Adamawa state, while serving senator, Ifeanyi Okowa won the primaries in Delta state. Former Ministers Labaran Maku and Emeka Wogu who both resigned their appointments as Ministers in October lost the tickets in their respective states of Nassarawa and Abia. The results from the Lagos state primaries is still being expected.

10th Sierra Leonean doctor dies of Ebola virus

A doctor from Sierra Leone has died from Ebola, making him the 10th doctor in the country to have died from the dreaded virus.

Dr. Brima Kargbo, Sierra Leone’s chief medical officer, said Dr. Aiah Solomon Konoyeima died of Ebola on Saturday Dec. 6th. Details of how and where the doctor became infected are not known.

Of the 11 Sierra Leonean doctors infected with the disease, only one has survived.

Shrien Dewani cleared in honeymoon murder trial by SA judge

Shrien Dewani, the British millionaire businessman accused of arranging his wife's murder during their honeymoon in South Africa in November 2010 was today acquitted of any part in the murder.

The judge, Jeanette Traverso, dismissed the case against Shrien Dewani, because according to her 'the evidence presented by the prosecution fell "far below the threshold" of what a reasonable court could convict on. She said the evidence of the prosecution's main witness, taxi driver Zola Tongo, was "riddled with contradictions" and "highly debatable". Meaning she didn't believe what he said in court.

A 42-year-old woman, Mrs. Juliana Godwin, despite all odds, has returned to school and is now a JSSI student of Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja.

Mrs. Godwin, is from Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State and had dropped out of school in 1983 due to lack of funds. According to her,

“I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could no longer sponsor my education to secondary school because he had no money. While I was with my cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn  dress making. I completed it within a year and  six months. In 2003, I was able to save some money from water hawking. I started pepper and tomato business with N1,000 from the savings. I also went into corn roasting business, but my husband stopped me from the business in 2007,” she told Vanguard.

Nigerian military releases detained Russian Cargo plane

The Nigerian military has released the detained Russian cargo plane which they seized on Saturday Dec. 7th after France admitted ownership of the aircraft.

It said that the flight was covered by a diplomatic clearance given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, noting that the Autonov 124 Russian commercial plane was forced to land at the Kano airport because of dense air traffic at Ndjamena airport, Chad.
