IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu absent in court as co-defendants are arraigned for treasonable offenses

The leader of the proscribed secessionist group IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was conspicuously absent at the Federal High Court in Abuja today October 17th. Kanu was supposed to appear in court for the resumed hearing of the felony charges leveled against him and three others by the Federal government.

His co-accused namely the National Coordinator of IPOB, Chidiebere Onwudiwe; an IPOB member, Benjamin Madubugwu; and a telecommunications expert, David Nwawuisi, are present in court.

Recall that Kanu has not been seen in public since the military operation at his home in Umuahia, Abia state on September 14th.

Lawyer says 'FG will produce Nnamdi Kanu in court today'

The resumed hearing on the treason charges filed against the leader of the banned secessionist group, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and three others, by the Federal government is expected to hold today at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Counsel to Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, says the Federal government will bring Kanu from where they have been hiding him since the invasion of his home in Umuahia by military officers on September 14th.

Hurricane Ophelia kills three and leaves 360,000 without power in Ireland

On Monday, Ireland was hit by Hurricane Orphelia in what officials called an "unprecedented storm" that left three people dead, more than 300,000 customers without power and shut down schools as well as government offices. 

A police spokesman said one woman in her 50s was killed outside the village of Aglish, near the south coast, when a tree fell on her car. A female passenger in her 70s suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Zainab Umar, an Economics student of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina died from snake poisoning in the early hours of Sunday. Zainab was bitten by a dangerous snake on her way to the school Library on Sunday, October 15.
