Final Law year student killed in Bayelsa during NANS election; president, other suspects arrested

A final year law student was shot dead on Sunday in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, during an election organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Magam Elvis, a delegate from University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Akwa Ibom State, was allegedly killed by fellow students believed to be cultists, The Nation reports. Trouble reportedly started last Saturday after the poll organized to elect NANS coordinators in Zone B. The crisis snowballed into a cult supremacy war, following the arrival and accreditation of delegates.

Former Olympic swimmer, Mark Foster comes out as gay

Mark Foster, who swam for Great Britain in five Olympic Games, has come out publicly as gay in an interview with The Guardian. The retired 47-year-old said in the interview that he has been dating men for the last 26 years, during much of his career.

Despite being out to many people in his personal life, Foster said coming out publicly had still brought him some anxiety. “I was a bit nervous today but I kept busy,” he said in the interview.

Olaoluwa Adejo, a 32-year-old bank worker has been arrested for the death of his 28-year-old wife, Maureen, at their home on Peluola Street, Oworonshoki, Bariga, Lagos State.

Olaoluwa was alleged to have tortured his wife of five years with a belt, as well as cutting her with a machete. Their 5-year-old son, Richard, who witnessed the incident, said that his father also forced a local insecticide, otapiapia, down the throat of his mother

President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated a 30-man tripartite National Minimum Wage Committee to renegotiate the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers. The inauguration took place at the council chamber, Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Monday.

In his remarks, Mr. Buhari said the inauguration of the committee followed the recommendation of a technical committee that was put in place, after the increase in Petrol Pump Price in May 2016.
