Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau apologises to the LGBTQ community, compensate them with up to $85 million

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, says contrary to the opinions of some Nigerians, President Buhari is fit and agile enough to lead Nigeria come 2019. Speaking to newsmen in Makurdi, the state capital yesterday, Ortom said that President Buhari is younger than ousted Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe and that there is no alternative to another leader like President Buhari.

The Nigerian Senate has reacted to the Libyan slave trade auctions. At plenary today, after reviewing the gruesome images and videos that have populated the news media, the Senate took action on the ongoing slave trade in Libya.

In a statement released moments ago, 'we passed a Resolution calling on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Libyan Ambassador to Nigeria to discuss ending the ongoing Libyan slave trade of black Africans -- many of them of Nigerian descent'.

A Nigerian man based in Italy has reportedly gotten his 65 year old father and 56 year old mum arrested for allegedly sending him pictures of a fake house they were building for him while in Italy. Facebook user, Nnamdi Victor who shared the story online wrote;

'One of us just locked his parents up in police cell. His 65 year old father and 56 year old mother slept in police cell last night with an instruction that anyone who comes close to bail them should be locked up too. I know what the parents did are wrong but I have been pleading with him since last week not to toe this path. There are many ways to solve issues like this.

Federal Government declares December 1st public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Friday December 1st, as public holiday in commemoration of the Muslim Eid-El-Maulud celebration. The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government, according to a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji. It said Mr. Dambazau urged all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to use the occasion to pray for peace, progress and unity of the nation.

He further urged all Nigerians to support the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in its efforts at building a virile nation, and wished Nigerians a happy Eid-El-Maulud celebration.

President Buhari reacts to slave trade business in Libya, vows to evacuate Nigerians trapped there

President Buhari on Tuesday night in Abidjan declared that all Nigerians stranded in Libya and other parts of the world will be brought home and rehabilitated. The President while speaking when he addressed Nigerians residing in Cote D'Ivoire, vowed to reduce the number of Nigerians heading for Europe illegally through the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea by providing basic social amenities such as education, healthcare, and food security at home.

In an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Community in Cote D’ Ivoire, on the margins of the 5th AU-EU Summit, President Buhari said all necessary steps will be taken to stem the tide of illegal migration by Nigerians.

A 9-year-old female student has died after falling ill weeks after gaining admission into a boarding school in Abuja.

Kamzie resumed as a J.S.S. 1 student at Louis Ville Girls' Secondary School Gwagwalada, Abuja in September. By October 2nd, she was severely sick but, according to her mother, was neglected by staff and school authorities who thought she was pretending. Her situation got worse and she visited the school's clinic again where she was given paracetamol and sent back to the hostel on October 7.

Senior Saudi Prince Miteb bin Abdullah has been freed after he was detained for three weeks on allegations of corruption.

Miteb, 65, son of the late King Abdullah and former head of the elite National Guard, was among 200 of royal family members, ministers and senior officials who were arrested in anti-corruption raids on the 4th of November.

Last night, Tuesday, 28th November 2017 witnessed the return of 239 Nigerian Migrants including men, women and children from Libya aboard a Libyan Airline flight.

The Federal Government Of Nigeria in collaboration with IOM (International Organization of Migration) have been working together in facilitating the return of Nigerian Migrants in Libya for over a year now. Many had traveled illegally through the desert trying to reach Italy via Libya before finding themselves in tight situations, thrown into jail for illegal entry or falling into the hands of wrong people and being sold into slavery/prostitution . .

Federal government to sell Tafawa Balewa Square, National Theatre others to finance 2018-2020 budget

The Federal government has concluded plans to sell the Tafawa Balewa Square, the National Arts Theatre and some selected power plants under the National Integrated Power Projects NIPP. The purpose of the proposed sale of some of the national assets is to generate sufficient revenue to finance the the 2018 to 2020 budgets.

N3.2bn Fraud: Court admits more evidence against former Abia governor, Orji Uzor Kalu

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, admitted in evidence a number of documents tendered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu. The former governor and APC chieftain is being prosecuted alongside his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and his former Commissioner for Finance, Jones James Udeogu, for money laundering to the tune of over N3.2bn. Kalu is accused of using his company to launder funds meant for the state while he ws in office.

Mixed reactions at this year's Grammy nominations where no white male was nominated in any major category

This year's Grammy nominations caused a lot of outrage, snubs and happiness amongst Americans, because it was mainly dominated by black and Latino artists in the main categories of album, record and song of the year for the 2018 Grammy Awards.

Jay-Z, already the winner of 21 Grammy awards, led the nominations with eight, followed by Kendrick Lamar with seven, Bruno Mars with six, and Childish Gambino, Khalid and SZA, all have five nominations.

Kaduna State sacks 4042 Local Government workers

On Tuesday, Kaduna State Government sacked 4,042 workers in the 23 local government areas of the state.  The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jafaru Sani, confirmed the development saying the exercise was part of the restructuring of the third tier of government for greater efficiency. 

Sani, while briefing newsmen, said the restructuring was designed to strengthen the local government system to carry out developmental projects and programmes. He explained that 3,159 staff members among those disengaged had put in 10 years and were retired while the remaining 893 had their jobs terminated.
