The youth of Umuomumu Mbieri in Umueze community, Imo state went on a rampage yesterday after a young graduate of Imo State University was killed by one of the king's security guards.
The victim, Uchenna Opara Junior, recently graduated from IMSU and was preparing to go for the National Youth Service when he was killed. According to online reports, the killing was allegedly spearheaded by the king of Umuomumu Mbieri, HRH Eze Peter Opara, who is said to have led his security men to shoot the deceased. Uche was only 27 years old.
After news of Uche’s death went wound in the community, angry youths mobilized themselves and they stormed the king’s palace to revenge the tragic death. They destroyed properties then set the building on fire.
Friends and former coursemates of the deceased took to Facebook to leave very touching tributes that give an insight into what kind of a person he was. He was vibrant, popular, and well loved. He was also so close to his mother and regularly posted photos of her on Facebook.
Ironically, Uche suffered an accident earlier this month that left him badly bruised but he survived that and was already on his way to recovery when he was killed by the king's guard.
