Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to be a lifetime president - Atiku Abubakar says

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had a recent interview with EFCC's quarterly magazine named Quarterly magazine. In the interview, Atiku alleged the his boss and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had planned to amend the constitution so that he can be president for life as against the third term bid he was presumed to be pursuing. Atiku in the interview said that his refusal to support Obasanjo's request made them fall apart;

"My offence was that I disagreed with him on the amendment of the constitution to remove tenure/term limits or what was popularly called the ‘third term agenda. In fact, he sent the then Attorney-General and Prof. Jerry Gana to my office to bring the draft amendments to the constitution. After going through (them), I found out that tenure limits had been removed. In other words, he could be President for life. I then asked them that ‘if I send you to the President, can you deliver this message? They said yes. I said ‘go and tell him I will not support it and (I) will fight it’.”he said The former Vice President said after his refusal to support Obasanjo's bid, the EFCC was used to label him as a corrupt government official even when there was no truth to the allegation.
