Graphic photos: Six police officers, others confirmed dead in robbery attack in Kwara state

Four police men and six others including bank customers, have been confirmed dead in a coordinated robbery attack that took place in Offa town, Kwara state yesterday April 5th.

The robbers who were more than 40 in number, invaded the Owode Police Station at about 4.45pm, killing some police officers and a few civilians. The bandits then proceeded to Bank road and began their operation. They robbed Guarantee Trust Bank, Eco Bank, First Bank, Union Bank and Zenith Bank.


Eye witnesses say some customers who were transacting businesses in the banks were also killed in the incident which was said to have lasted one hour.

The robbers, according to eyewitnesses, entered the town at about 4:45 pm and operated till about 5:40 pm unchallenged after blocking the Ilorin and Osogbo entrances into the town.

An eyewitness, Mrs. Tijani, said the robbers split themselves into groups to carry out the operations in the different banks. They used dynamites to blow open the entrance of the banks.

“They used something like bomb to break into Union Bank,” she said

The robbers carted away millions of Niara from the various banks they attacked.

Confirming the attack, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the police has begun an investigation into the matter.
