Monkeypox spreads from Bayelsa state to Rivers and Akwa Ibom States

A new case of Monkeypox has been recorded in Akwa Ibom State, an official has confirmed and at least 13 people suspected to be affected by the viral disease are on admission in hospitals in neighboring Bayelsa and Rivers states.

The Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom, Charles Udoh, in a statement issued in Uyo, confirmed the single case. He also said that the state government was investigating two more cases suspected to be monkeypox.

Ivorian striker, Georges Griffiths, who plays for Hungarian Premier League club, Diosgyor, has been shot dead in Ivory Coast. The football star who was dubbed the ‘Next Didier Drogba’ was on a visit to his home city of Abidjan when he was shot and killed by carjackers on Thursday evening.

According to the Sun report, the 26-year-old was attacked in the capital's upmarket suburb of Cocody. Two armed thugs reportedly tried to steal Griffiths' Mercedes 4x4, and shot the striker when he refused to hand it over.

Davido and Wizkid nominated for 2017 MTV EMA Award

MTV has announced the nominees for the 2017 MTV EMA Awards and Nigerian superstars, Wizkid and Davido will battle it out for Best African Act alongside four other nominees. On the international scene, Taylor Swift leads with six nominations followed by Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran with four nominations each. The distraught widow of a man who filmed himself dying after letting a mamba bite him when she left him says she cannot bring herself to watch the footage. Well-known Russian snake expert Arslan Valeev, 31, pleaded with viewers to call Ekaterina 'Katya' Pyatyzhkina as he visibly deteriorated live on YouTube.

Katya, 24, has now revealed she rushed to the home they used to share after she got a call but was too late as her husband had been taken to hospital where he died. She said:

Sado, who was 31 at the time, was a reporter in charge of covering the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
